NEW YORK (AP) -- More than nine out of 10 Americans, men and women alike, have had premarital sex, according to a new study. The high rates extend even to women born in the 1940s, challenging perceptions that people were more chaste in the past.

Same here, my parents, my three siblings and myself are part of the 5 percent.
Coincidentallly...or maybe not...the length of our marriages to date are: 57 years (parents)...siblings and myself: 32 years, 26 years, 26 years, and 24 years.
And the other 5% lied about it.
For the proposes of this study, "vaginal sexual intercourse".
I wonder if that was a "heterosexual pre-marital sex" survey or what?
If we don't include the 10% gay population, does that bring the 95% down to 85%?
What a bunch of crap....probably a taxpayer-funded study, too.....
One could cadge a research grant and do a study on the remaining 5%.
Some folks are just dog ugly
I wonder how the divorce rate of the 5% compares to the rest. I know the couples who don't live together before marriage do much better than those that do.
Maybe the respondents were confused and thought the poll takers meant 'test driving cars'. Or, the respondents were thinking manual manipulation of their own genitalia.
I was born in the late 30's. In college in the Middle West many of us lost our virginity or were sexually active. On the whole though it was not the first date, and not unless we thought we would continue to date the person. Not like "hooking-up", although as one accumulated several years of experience and friends, it might become "friends with benefits". In high school in the East it was not as common, although some girls from working class families had a "reputation." One 15 year old college track girl got pregnant by her steady boyfriend. It was a bit of a scandal
My mother was in college in the late 20's. She and her friends used to go from New Jersey to "speak easies" in New York City in the Village. I doubt she was a virgin when she met my father.
I don't know...it was culturally OK for women to like men back then. Things are tougher, now. ;)
Then I really have to call BS. (I'd highly doubt it even if it included oral.) I'm definitely going to read this thing and see how they went about their research.
I wonder if they considered "rape" as sex before marriage.
According to numbers I've heard (perhaps, their own), up to 25 % of women have been raped.
Actually some of us were and some of our children are. Shock of all shocks!
If this was figured "per capita" it might be my fault.
God forgive me, I once was lost.
I believe it. I don't know a single virgin before they were married.
LOL! So true...
And of all the people getting divorced, HALF of them are women. Whooda thunk it?
95% huh, is that with or without a partner.
That'd be me.
Just celebrated our 20th.
