Bayh Bailing on '08? ["Bayhwatch '08"]

CBS) There has been intense speculation among Democrats Friday night that Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh will not seek his party's nomination for president in 2008, CBS News has learned. Bayh’s office has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The speculation comes less than two weeks after Bayh hired campaign staff and announced plans to form a fundraising committee for a potential presidential bid.

"He has this very serious team ... some very high-powered help," Mark Blumenthal — aka Mysterypollster, editor of pollster.com — said at the time. Blumenthal noted that he's worked in the past with some of Bayh’s new staff.

Bayh might have been a strong Democratic contender in a presidential race. A two-term governor before being sent to Washington, Bayh would have come to the contest with the advantage of having both Capitol Hill and gubernatorial experience.

In a nutshell, he has cooperated with conservatives on 15% or so of his votes. That makes him too far right to compete for the moonbat base.

His Dad was a hero!???

On June 19, 1964, Bayh, his wife, Senator Ted Kennedy and legislative aide Edward Moss were on board a small plane that crashed in heavy fog near Springfield, Massachusetts. Senator Bayh pulled a badly injured Senator Kennedy from the wreckage. Senator and Mrs. Bayh were relatively unhurt, while the pilot and Moss were both killed in the crash.

Yes, as I have been saying for years. The path is being cleared for her. She will get the nomination very early, hardly have to spend any money, and will have minimal sound bites against her by Dems.

He's only the Democrat who could carry Indiana - he's still popular there.

This, if true is the best political news the right has had in a while.
Evan Bayh was a serious threat in that he is the only sane, personable, very knowledgeable, intelligent candidate on the left and his a calm rational appeal bridges the gap and is acceptable to Independents, and centrist Republicans, who are the swing voters.
If he is out of the run for POTUS & VPOTUS it is very good news indeed.

I wish the Republicans/Conservatives had a candidate as dangerous to the left as Bayh was to the right/

This is good news. Bayh is about the only Democrat that Republicans could even remotely feel comfortable with. With him out, the Dems are left with only their extremist leftists. They won't get any cross over voters at that rate.

Guys like EB drive me nuts. They visit their home"red" state and act like a local, then go to Washington and vote straight line with Ted Kennedy.

Baye very well could be the VP.....dems need one state, Ohio, and Baye, not Obama holds a better fitting key.

Obama is out there to take heat off Hillary and energize the base.

I live in Indiana too.South of Indy in greenwood..believe me normally sane people for some reason love to vote for bayh.

It makes no sense to me either but this state would go to the dems if bayh was on the ticket.

Must be something in the water.
