Did they start Ian on vasopressin...
They use it a lot with SIADH...
Wonderful news! Ian and his family will continue to be in our prayers.
God is good...
Merry Christmas, and with continued prayers it will be so.
Thanks so much for taking time out of life's schedule to write and let us know what's going on. Sounds like Ian's the kinda little kid that has a lot of surprises in store for y'all.
Our prayers continue for this special child, as well as your family.
Blessings during this most holy season and through the year to come.

That would be so wonderful....I'll be praying so hard for that to happen! :)
Thank you for this wonderful update! Prayers for Ian continue.
Father of Life and Giver of all Good Who Is Alone Good, thank You! Please continue to pour out this Mercy and Love and Protection and Healing and Goodness into these lives, and please send special graces to keep up with the 'dailies' that must be dealt with even in the midst of Your Miracles! How we thank You, Giver, for all this, in Jesus Christ our Lord, Your Beloved, In Whom we are Accepted. Thank You, Our Father, that You are Faithful and hear us with such Mighty Compassion!

Continued prayers for Ian and his loving family and friends.

I'm afraid I don't know. He's on a lot of stuff, and most of the names go right over my head!
Thank you. BTW, love the picture on your profile page! That's beautiful!
My FRiend Mama_Bear made that Christmas card for me!
This one's pretty lengthy, but it's mostly good news...
Ian was out of the ICU, and in a "normal" room, when I got there after work yesterday. He was also alert, and very into watching "Cars". "I am Lightening McQueen" he informed me.
Anyway, Tom posted three updates yesterday. Here they are, for anyone who didn't sign up for the care pages...

Sorry for the late posting today--it's been a busy day!
Today was a pretty good day. Ian left the ICU today and went back out on the floor. He has done a good job of maintaining the balance of his electrolytes for the last few days, so this morning they took out his central line and his catheter. Today, Ian is free of lines hooking him to machines and bags--He's pretty happy about that!
Relative to Ian's prognosis, we had a couple of conversations today that gave us things to think and pray about. We spoke with neurologists this morning, and they told us the results of the EEG taken yesterday showed slower brain activity (on both sides)than they would expect to see in a four year old. Possible explanations include the low sodium episode, hangover from seizures, and brain injury. They didn't seem overly concerned, but they said it is something to watch. We will pray that his brain activity returns to whatever base line it was prior to the accident.
The opthalmologist had some good news and some ambiguous news. First the good news--he did some testing on Ian's right eye today, and it appears that he has at least some vision in the eye. He was able to answer the "How many fingers" question four our of five times with his left (good) eye covered. It's not clear how good the vision is, but there is at least some. We'll keep praying for full recovery, but this is still good news. The ambiguous news is that upon close examination of the CT of his brain, it appears that one of the interior carotid arteries (right side) has been impinged by bone and blood flow through that artery has been reduced by as much as 50%. It's not clear what this means for the future, so we need to discuss this with the neurologist/neurosurgeons. One doctor we talked to said it probably won't pose a problem, as the brain has a plentiful supply of blood from lots of other sources. We're going to dig into this and find out more, but for the time being, we're going to pray that this won't be a long-term issue and it won't impact Ian's recovery.
So, lest you think today was more bad than good, we made a lot of progress today. Ian was able to sit up, ride in a wheel chair, do a bunch of therapy (He beat HJ and his therapist is a rousing game of Barnyard Bingo), and eat like a horse. He even got all of us excited by using the potty for the first time since the accident! This afternoon, after taking his usual post-lunch siesta, Ian was very alert for most of the afternoon. He watched Curious George and Cars, talked to his docs and visitors, and generally looked pretty good for a solid 4 hour stretch. We took Ian out in his chair around 4:00 PM and he was busy identifying animals (in the murals on the walls), reading some of the signs and answering questions. In the playroom, he even played catch (no I'm not kidding) and sat at the little table and wrote his name! This was all great stuff!
One thing that was perplexing us was Ian's unwillingness to bear weight on his left leg. It seemed like it hurt, but none of the scans showed anything in his hips that would prevent him from bearing weight. HJ solved the mystery this afternoon when while putting lotion on Ian's left leg, she discovered a huge lump on his left shin, with bruising that was just beginning to appear. We had the doc look at it and he doesn't think it's broken, but they're doing an x-ray tonight to be sure. Broken or not, it does explain why it hurts Ian to walk, so please pray that his leg heals quickly.
Once again, this is getting too long, so I'll close. Your prayers continue to hold our family up and move Ian along the healing pathway. We would love for Ian to be home for Christmas, but he has a long way to go, so we'll see. We thank you for your prayerful support and practical help.

P.S. Some of you may have heard that there is a no-visitor policy for Ian. This is not really the case. During the day (8 AM-3 PM) things get busy with docs, nurses and therapists, so HJ, Ian and I are often not available during this time--so if you come, we might not be there. Following those hours, we just want to make sure Ian's not overwhelmed so he can rest. If you want to visit, please do--we really appreciate it, but you may want to call us before you come so we can let you know if the timing is right. We don't want to miss you!

Update on Ian's Leg:
The x-ray showed Ian's leg to be broken and slightly displaced. They believe they'll have to put him under a general anesthetic in order to set the leg, as surgery may be required. His skull fracture and brain injury complicate this process. Unfortunately, the leg has been healing in the wrong position for 10 days, so we don't know how complicated the surgery, if required, is going to be. Tomorrow looks like another tough day for that little boy. Please pray for us, Ian and the doctors during the decision-making process.

Prayers that doctors can set Ian's leg with minimal invasiveness. Prayers for Ian recovery to 100% on his carotid artery and vision, as well as continued healing of his skull fracture and brain injury.
Lord, we know that You are the Great Physician and can heal Ian before he sees another doctor. Lord, we ask that this is Your will. We ask that You grant Ian full restoration so that he can return home to celebrate the birth of Your Son, Jesus with his family. We also ask that they be able to celebrate a miracle in the complete recovery of their son, Ian and his return to his family for Christmas. We know that Ian means God's gracious gift. Lord, we know that Ian is Your gracious gift and thank you for protecting him while he has been going through so much. In Your Son's name, amen.
Oh..my goodness....kind of a roller coaster of a report...
I am very happy about the eyesight test and his attitude.
However, for him to have a displaced broken leg, and no one knowing for 10 days is upsetting...
Prayers for Ian through the surgery on his leg...and for increased brain activity...
Thanks for the updates.
Of course you and the family are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.
Keep up the good work, IAN!!!

Continuing Prayers bump.
