Tragically, this attack is largely forgotten by the majority of Americans, not unlike the attacks on America in 1993 and 2001. Never forget was the slogan but the people have forgotten, they have more important things like American Idol and Dancing with stars to tend to. We are in deep doo-doo. We have gone from Norman Rockwell to Robert Mapplethorpe in one generation. Tragically sad.

Remembering all those who wre killed that day.....

I really loved having the opportunity to visit Pearl Harbor several years ago. It's particularly great that the Missouri is there now too, providing the perfect bookend to the Arizona.

My Brother in Law was on the USS New Orleans during Pearl Harbor.
The Chaplain started the prayer "Praise The Lord and Pass the Ammunition".

Later in the war, a torpedo blew the entire bow off this Fine Ship between the #1 and 2 turrets.
They saved the ship by backing it into an atoll and making a false bow with palm trees and junk.
They made half speed to Australia where a new bow was installed.
He was transfered to the USS Laws and spent the rest of the war on it.

Its time to surrender to Japan. We must give up Midway Island, Hawaii and California for peace. Hopefully our German and Italian friends can help us mediate a lasting settlement with the Japanese Empire.

Just a couple of days ago, I was in an elevator with an older fellow who wore a hat that designated him as a former crewman of the USN Wisconsin.

I wanted to ask him more about the vessel, but it was simply not appropriate at the time.

The next time that I see that fellow, I'll be more prepared, if the circumstances allow.

I am picking up the phone now to call a friend of mine (in his late 80s) who survived the Pearl Harbor attack. I've been needing to call him anyway.

Thanks for posting this.

The majority of people around here have NOT forgotten Pearl Harbor.

My children are 10, 9 and 7. At breakfast if it is an historically important day, I tell them about it. Tomorrow's lesson is Pearl Harbor, just as it was a year ago and the year before that.

I bet their little Lutheran school teaches a bit about it too.

Have hope and don't sell us short - there are many people aware of world events and history across the nation.

I am happy to hear that your kids are made from the right stuff. However 3 kids do not make a majority. Do you really think the 30,000,000 illegal immigrants living in the USA give a damned about Pearl Harbor of George Washington or The Constitution? You are fooling yourself if you do. A majority of Americans can not even tell you who their congressman is. Many people is not enough. We need a solid majority of people who care about preserving our culture or we will implode. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It makes me sick too.

I have always told my students (when they asked me my age) that I was born 4 days after Pearl Harbor. Teaching math, I would bring in a little history.

My middle grandson will be 14 tomorrow. We always consider the significance of the day.

Thank God that the maggots infesting this country in 2006 weren't around on December 7th, 1941. We'd all be drinking saki and eating sushi and sauerkraut right now.

Thank God we don't do that.
