Byrd: Do you support an attack on Iran.

Gates: That would have to be an absolute last resort. Once war is unleashed, it becomes unpredictable.

Okay...it is very easy to see why Rummy's resignation is a disaster right now.

Gates hasn't been able to answer any of Inhofe's questions about the weapons we need, the future troops we need to add, China...

HE doesn't know about any of this stuff...and we are in the middle of a war...with the Congress and the bad guys wanting us to quit...but his "BOSS" wanting us to win.

IOW..this is going to be a total "learning on the job" situation during one of the most volatile times of our national security...

We are SO in trouble.

I admit he is making some stupid comments

I just don't think he is as bad as Cindy Sheehan

The Iraq Study Group has agreed to appear before the committee tomorrow .. or Thursday at 9:30

Bryd up asking about the rumors of attacking Iran and if Gates supports it

Gates says that it was be the absolute last resort

Dubya can either withdraw HARRIET Gate's nomination or resign as President. This is quite a circus!

this is going to be a total "learning on the job" situation

I fear Gates thinks he knows where he wants to go already so no need to "get up to speed." Where he wants to go I think is not where I would want to go.

Byrd is obsessed with our not attacking Iran or Syria.

I suspect that the administration has devised a strategy of burrying all the wannabes with a flurry of memos and busywork as a way to get cover and peace to proceed with their work. Its a whole lot of sound and fury signifying nothing.

Inhofe told Gates that Peter Pace said yesterday that we many not be 'WINNING' the war, but we certainly aren't 'LOSING' the war...

Inhofe asked Gates if he agreed with that statement by Pace, and he said "yes"...

I think he has been told by someone NOT to elaborate on his thoughts...just in case one of the pesky GOP members aren't happy with his answers.

He said he agreed that we are not winning, but also that we are not losing.

I REALLY don't like this being on live TV. These very hearings jeopardize our national security, imo.

Sorry Mo, but IMHO, this guy is no good. Just listen to the answers he's giving to Byrd.

Oh Rummy, we miss you terribly!

I love your quotes -- too bad they're accurate -- perfect description of our situation, and we provide the tax dollars for this CF.
