Kerry to postpone decision on '08 run
Boston Globe ^ | December 2, 2006 | Rick Klein

Associates say 'joke' fallout stunned him

-- Senator John F. Kerry's election-eve "botched joke" about the war in Iraq -- and the fierce denunciations his comments drew from fellow Democrats -- has led him to reevaluate whether to mount a run for the presidency in 2008 and has led him to delay an announcement about his decision, according to Kerry associates.

The Massachusetts Democrat is now leaning toward waiting until late spring before declaring his intentions, even as other candidates jump into the race and begin building organizing and fund-raising teams in early-primary states. Before the joke derailed his comeback, Kerry had signaled that he would decide whether to run by the end of January.

I think he'll wait 'til '09 to decide whether or not he'll run in '08.

It was not close, President Bush won. When President Bush's 2004 performance is compared to 2000 it can be shown that he increased his percentage of the vote in 47 of the 50 States and DC.

And to think this was the best presidential candidate the Democrats could come up with for 2004...and Al Gore, before that. Frightening.

The REALLY frightening thing is that 40+% of folks VOTED for him...

"Kerry to postpone decision on '08 run"

He's waiting for the laughter to die down. And that's just from the Democrats.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your donations.

I have come to bury Kerry, not to praise him.

Which is a good thing, 'cause he's getting a lil WHIFFY, trust me.

Amazing how inept this reporter is. Completely missed the real point of this announcement..Kerry is up for re-election to the Senate in 2008, and all the Dem members of the Mass Congressional delegation ( like Marty Meehan) have told him that they will not stand by and let him do a "Lieberman"..that is, run for the Senate AND the WH. So Kerry, if he wants to run again for president, will have to go "all in" and literally bet his Senate seat.. That's what he's trying to decide..

Kerry should not only postpone his decision but permanently postpone his political life in general.

The nation has spoken Ketchup Johnny.

You are unfit for command.

All your votes ARE BELONG TO US!

John Kerry can at least take pride in the fact that, unlike Al Gore in 2000 or George McGovern in 1972, he carried his home state.

I saw a clip (must have been on Special Report without Brit Hume on FNC) of John McCain speaking at an event. He told a joke about two inmates in prison waiting in the chow line...one says to the other, "The food was better when you were governor."

At least McCain can tell a joke...Kerry hasn't even mastered that skill.

don't kid yourself. - It was very close.

In the electoral college, where America elects it's president, he lost by a small margin in Ohio. - Thats it.

and we could all be bitching about how Bush got 2-3 million more popular votes and still lost the election.

Good point, what the hell is wrong with Mass that they keep voting for this creep and the swimmer?

How powerful are they to do that? - I mean, Kerry is powerful enough in Mass to tell them to take a hike and do whatever he wants to do.

He will be re elected for Senator in any party that he wishes and I believe he could tell them to go pound sand.
