Boston -- Governor Mitt Romney has started his push for the White House, but a recent story could be damaging for Romney. He hired a company that hired illegal aliens, apparently. He didn't hire them directly, as those who hire illegal nannies. This is like saying you have to check the immigration status of the workers next time you go to a restaurant.

I don't think so. Massachusetts Republicans are not happy with Mitt - He totally ignored them and gave money to Republicans in other states. I think this is a bit of revenge on their part.

Why not? A contractor used by WalMart hired illegals, and it was WM that got into hot water and was on the receiving end of the bad press.
This reminds me of all the nannygate scandals a while back.
Some candidate or appointee would be caught having hired, knowingly or unknowingly, an illegal.
I'd better not run for office- the guys hired by my gardener to mow and blow my little patch of lawn, trim my bushes, and whack the dead leaves off the palm tree just may be here illegally!
WalMart is a target because they are Republican, and donate a lot of money to Republican causes. That's why they got the treatment, too. They didn't, and they don't, deserve the attacks they are getting from the Left.
And if you've got proof they are illegals, *()&^%$$@, post it!

I'm in complete agreement with you. I have no sympathy for those who hire illegals and get caught, but as you say, are we supposed to be responsible for checking out the status of the employees of a restaurant?
As a consumer should I stop buying chicken in the supermarket because many growers use illegals to catch the birds?

If I recall correctly, wasn't Bernie K. basically FORCED to give up his appointement to Homeland Security, because of this issue?
deserve it or not, republicans need to be squeaky clean just to be considered. why can't we find someone who doesn't have any of these negatives?

The newspeople said, "Well, he should have known. They were speaking Spanish." Okay. Does that mean that every time we are greeted by a Spanish speaking worker at a fast food restaurant, or anyplace else, that we're supposed to ask about their immigration status?
The fact is, even employers are between a rock and a hard place. The huge majority of these people present phony documents. The employer could verify social security numbers every time they got an Hispanic applicant, but then they'd be sued for discrimination under Title VII.
Sheesh.

Talk to the contractor that paid them, not the person who hired the contractor. What a joke...la
