It wasn't Bush's question that made Webb want to slug him, it was Bush's smart ass response to the answer. I don't blame Webb one bit.

Then you are no better than Webb. The Persident of the United Staates of America asked the man a nice simeple question. When I ask somebody a simple question and they dodge it while taking a shot at me, I'll freaking call them on it too.

Nice to know you share Webb's values. If you mosey on down to DU you'll be more than welcome.

Here, despite our differences, we respect the office of the Presidency.

That is absolute nonsense. Webb went off on a rant first, and Bush was most tempered in his response, "that's not what I asked..." This man is the Commander in Chief of all of our armed services and it was most gracious of the President to even inquire of Webb's son, notwithstanding the vicious comments that Webb made against the President throughout the campaign.

This is a liberal's definition of suitable manners: show up at someone else's home, ignore the host, be rude to the host, and then leak your rudeness to the Washington Post.

I hope the people of Virginia hear a good deal about this, because 10:1 people will support the President's behavior and not Senator-elect Webb.

You've got to be kidding. I thought Bush was extremely magnanimous after all the nonsense he's had to put up with from grandstanding politicians. He was expressing interest in the person - not the political issue.

Oddly you have the same exact reaction that I've heard on Washington Journal coming from the libs.... oddly.

It wasn't Bush's question that made Webb want to slug him...

Oh get over yourself. Webb went to that reception with a chip on his shoulder. He was purposely avoding THE PRESIDENT at THE WHITE HOUSE.

He's an ill-tempered brat.

It wasn't President Bush's smart ass response. It was Webb's nasty comeback to a perfectly polite question. The president was not about to get into an exchange of words on the topic, which is what Webb was spoiling for.

I don't blame Pres. Bush for keeping the conversation on topic one bit.

Bush asked him how is SON was, and Webb responded with what HE wanted, ignoring the question. Bush simply noted Webb hadn't answered the question.

You think Webb didn't regularly answer politely to his thousands of supporters who asked him how his son was doing?

Notice that Webb did not say "HE wants to be home", he said "I want him to come home". Maybe his son wants to serve out his time.

Note also that Webb's plan for Iraq wouldn't bring his son home, it would just redeploy him to another country to be "on-call".

I agree with you. Though Webb could have simply ignored Bush's remark and said something like ... "Oh he's fine, wants to come home." By that token, Bush could have responded to Webb's initial comment with "I am sure they all do, is your boy okay though."

I think it shows how strongly everyone is feeling nowadays.

How was Bush's reply "smart assed?" To me it was the perfect comeback and reminiscent of the old straight-shooter Bush.

I cannot imagine for one moment that Senator Webb's behavior in response to President Bush's polite question will go over well with the Marines in Iraq. Senator Webb and his staff acted disgracefully. Fortunately for you, Senator Webb will be hailed a hero by the Liberal Press and others thereby making Iraq even more dangerous for our Troops there.

I would be so much more happier if Senators and all other politicians remembered that what they say may embolden the enemies in Iraq targeting our Troops. All this ill tempered verbiage is not suitable at this time when our country is in need of thoughtful and wise leadership.

So you were there and know for sure that Bush was the one who provoked this?

Hey, if you want to take a swipe at someone, try Oliver North. I can bet you that the "WebbSter" want no part of that action. The last time Col. North and Senator-Elect Webb got it on during a Boxing match at the Naval Academy, Ollie was the victor.

Have a nice day, tough guy.
