About the only solution I can see to this mess is a prayer campaign. I'll be happy to join you in that endeavor! Lord, have mercy on us.
As for Frist, isn't he a doctor? Let's send him to Iraq so he can start really helping people who are in desperate need of medical care.

That remark is below the belt seeing as he often has done charity work in deprived areas of the world.

America has seldom needed a great leader more. Where the dickens is he? We have great leaders. What we have not had is great followers. Have you ever watched a football team with a great QB and a great coach but the rest were lousy players ? It is not a pretty picture.

Perhaps but the WH folk definitely did NOT care at all for Trent Lott. Guess they thought he was "too independent." BOTTOM LINE: Democrats can have a "macacca" moment and get away with it, for Republicans, it is one strike and you are out. It is the unwritten rule of politics.

We have great leaders. What we have not had is great followers. True. But one mark of a great leader is to get people to follow him. Reagan managed that. The press worked against him 24/7, and tried to Watergate him with Iran/Contra, but it didn't work, because he reached out to people and persuaded them he was a good man.
It can be a fault of Democracies that they follow demagogues and populists to their ruin. After the death of Pericles, Athens followed Creon and Alcibiades, and as a result was destroyed by Sparta. It was the same Athens it was earlier, but it lacked another Pericles, someone who was both wise and persuasive.

The ONLY Republican I would vote for right now as president is Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn. He's the ONLY Republican with principle, as far as I'm concerned.
You really think they'll let us have that choice? I don't. But he is the conservative darling, capable man, good speaker, no scandals. Funny how the real conservatives like Pence and Coburn get neglected here at FR any more in favor of who has kissed the king's ring most recently.
Well, maybe Dims in the majority will make conservatives (even Republicans) focus more on principles, performance and consistency. I hope so.

TANCREDO/BUCHANAN. THE DREAM TICKET.
Eek. The Dims could run Kennedy/Schumer and probably win.

... besides Dick Cheney I don't see anyone out there that I could reeeeely get enthusiastic about in 2008...

Condi? I know she keeps saying that she is not going to run, but I'll bet someone could convince her that her country needs her.

Vice President Cheney. He won't run and he had been demonized by the press. But I like his style and conservatarian philosophy.

I LOVE Cheney. I even named my cat after him.

That remark is below the belt seeing as he often has done charity work in deprived areas of the world. It was not meant that way. We need him over there to see what is really going on.

Well I wonder if Bill Frist will ever endorse McCain? I always thought it was McCain’s “Gang of 14” that took Frist out of the president race.
