First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.
It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).
A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.
The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.
The Secret Service would not comment on the purse snatching, and the First Lady’s office said they would not comment on any personal trip made by the daughters. There have been recent reports, however, that Jenna Bush has been living and working in Panama as an intern for UNICEF.

Just saw it on the news....it was an outdoor cafe. Apparently the SS saw it, but they don't leave the girls to chase a thief.

Come on with this. I didn't imply that. You asked and I told you about me when I was getting out of hand, that's all. I like those daughters. When an SS Agent also gets mugged, some planning on what they do and where is needed.
The fact is, the young women in question are intelligent and mature, they did absolutely nothing 'stupid,' and their Dad doesn't need to do a single thing to them except give them a big hug when they get home.

True. But isn't the Secret Service, at least to me, supposed to be a calling? I mean, you want these guys to have brilliance at what they do but not be driven by earnings, but by belief in what they do.
I mean, just the mystique alone of having "Secret Service" on your resume...
It can't be about pay. If our Secret Servicemen/women not doing a fantastic job because of pay then this country is lost.

If the girls had been in any danger, there would have been a dead thief bleeding out on the restaurant floor.The SS lads keep their security sharp and non-invasive for the twins.Making a scene to nab the theif was not in their ROE. They could have killed the theif, or wrestled him to the floor, but all that would have done, would have been to ruin a perfectly good evening, and make for a lesson lost for the girls. Now maybe they both are packin'.
