What's Tofurkey?

• Tofurkey is a pre-cooked meatless turkey alternative made with organic non-genetically engineered soybeans.

• Tofurkey products are made from a combination of organic tofu and vital wheat gluten made with all-natural, vegan flavors an no msg or hvp.

• Tofurkey is certified vegan by the UK Vegan Society. The product uses nongenetically modified or organic ingredients and are packed in 100 percent recycled paperboard packaging.

UGGGHHHH! Tofurkey?!?! How disgusting! Rest assured vegans, I have a great turkey stuffing recipe in which the turkey is stuffed with veal. How does that sound to you? For every turkey that you hugging vegans don't eat, I will cook an additional turkey just to make up for the deficit. I love all animals...because they are so delicious.

"Pumpkin pie" is a custard, an that is made with eggs. So how does she make it if she doesn't eat eggs?

I've been eating Tofurky with my vegan (and conservative Republican) family members for about the last 8 years for both TG and CM meals.

I like it.....They like it, no problem. I get turkey all the time on work sites, so it's a nice change. In fact, the year we had TG at SIL's sister's house, it was the closest thing to real turkey anyone brought.

That was also the TG that we ate off off a plastic Happy Birthday table cloth off of Bugs Bunny Disposable plates and had bad BBQ on cheap buns---- Martha Stewart has nothing to fear from that family ;)

Martin Sheen donated a few tofurkeys to our town's homeless shelter a few years ago. IIRC the homeless weren't too appreciative.

Not a turkey fan myself, but what else are they good for other than eating?

Tofurkey. That's disgusting. We're having 2 turkeys this year - one smoked, and one BBQ'd.

Why is there a 'vegan alert'? Is dietary choice now a conservative / liberal thing?

God bless the vegans. If there are enough of them to reduce supply, turkeys will become cheaper for omnivores like myself.

"I'd love to invite one to dinner," said Garrett, who has worked at Good Health grocery store for 10 years. "I would love to have one as a pet turkey some day."

Till the first time (of MANY) that it craps in her house. I've lived out in the country and turkey is the WORST. Pigs are a close second.

The stuffing is so good when you make it from scratch.

...and Scratch was such a faithful, loving dog, too... :-)

If you crave something that (allegedly) tastes and looks like meat, why not just eat meat? Sheesh.

I've had and enjoyed plenty of vegetarian thanksgivings in the past....and tofurkey...actually all of those faux-meat products are pretty good considering. Wheat gluten or seitan and tofu have been used in asian societies as meat replacement for centuries...so it's not like this is a new thing. It really is all in the gravy anyway...not to say I don't enjoy a great turkey either...I have a wonderful source for freshly killed ones.

She's not a true vegan, since she had organic whipping creme. Last time I checked, it meant no animal products - not just the ones you agreed with.

"I would love to have one as a pet turkey some day."

This idiot has never raised poultry, I take it. Turkeys are STUPID, smelly and mean. And the Toms are HUGE. We've had wild Toms in our back forty that are easily 5 feet tall, when standing up and all fluffed out.

I'd love to see her cornered by one, LOL!

I have a 16 lb guest currently relaxing inside my freezer. Monday he will be ceremoniously transfered to nicer accommodations within the refridgerator, followed by a wonderful long lazy bath, where he will be allowed to lounge luxuriously and soak in water all night Wednesday night. Thursday morning he will receive a vigorous massage and rubdown with many many fine scents, and will receive many cajun/garlic injections. He will then be carefully placed within the Fryer, and will finish his journey as the guest of honor at the center of our thanksgiving table.
