Someone to replace Dole
You could do that with a crash-test dummy.
And he'd probably do it better.
A crash-test dummy would have been sense than to go to wall for Lincoln Chafee and Snarlin' Arlen.
"Okay, now we've got:
Asa Hutchinson
Mike Steele
Mel Martinez
Newt Gingrich
J.C. Watts
Anyone else?"
Lynn Cheney
Well, why not, so many sat out this election - guess the conservatives are gone.
All those "lesson to GOP'ers" - note one of your results.
Also, we got Nancy, we get an Iraq pullout and Iranians and terrorists in control of the mideast oil and Iraq. We got Rumsfeld fired, we got Murpha exalted to a powerful position, and we have the democrats running foreign relations.
Anything else?
But, gee, they taught the GOP a lesson. So much so, that they get to start with day 1 to build a conservative party.
I give up - we might as well be happy with liberalism we do not a workable group of conservatives to stay any course.
They will learn nothing. The "teach the GOP" a lesson group just made them think that they want liberalism. Besides, it does not matter what the president or the GOP wants - it is now controlled by the Dems that our purists allowed to win.
Don't go blaming Bush and the GOP - this is the result of dems taking over. Bush has lost 50% of his power.
I'm not sure that I disagree with you on your general points. I just don't know whether he has good skills or not in tha capacity. And that would have been my first objection against him. Also, that he might not be as articulate or charismatic as one might want for the job.
It's my understanding that the day-to-day aspects of the job will be handled by Mike Duncan, who was the general counsel under Mehlman (and I think Gillespie).
I don't think nor have I claimed that Martinez is the ideal choice. My point is that he is pretty conservative -- and as largely a figurehead, maybe not such a bad choice.
Like many said, if they want to lose 08 big, they're going good so far. And if the 3 or so "newly legal voters" don't take your place, then the R's also lost another broken-glass voter.
I'm pretty forgiving, but the minute Mel pulled his shamnesty crap I got really, really mad, because I voted for him. After the Mexican-flags-Spanish-only-screw-America marches earlier this year, I've little patience for this tenderhearted view of invading foreigners who think they have a birthright to be here, and laugh at the idea of assimilation. It's a slap in the face of the highest order.
Pres. Bush picked him, stuck it to us again.
I mean what is the purpose of your gossip mongering. She's not running for anything.
Guess?
Guess?
pretty close.
Martinez is a great conservative except he's terrible on illegal immigration.
Are you feeling angry and all emotional.
We lost 25 pro HR 4437 seats in the House last Tuesday. Conservatives can get angry, feel emotional or they can go out and vote and support conservative candidates.
That didn't happen last Tuesday.
Thanks for that new (to me) information.
I have seen other freepers posting links to a lot of websites with the same outrage that we feel...so hopefully, the WH will get the message...or someone does.
I support conservative candidates. Unfortunately, many times the GOP candidate is NOT a conservative candidate.
Under a Republican president, we are getting a de facto merger with Mexico shoved down our throats. Doesn't matter that the Dems will pass it, I expect them to do foolish and dangerous things (unless the Blue Dogs save the day). What matters is that GWB will sign it.
"There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of Men bad enough for such treachery".
And in my neck of the woods, the latest murder just announced on the local news happens to involve an illegal immigrant and his wife.
Gotta love those family values.
If only Paul Ryan, my Congresscritter, had some more 'sperience,....
Ma'am, I voted straight Republican.
And my gut is telling me he's being tapped because of the latter, not the former.
Asa Hutchinson
Mike Steele
Mel Martinez
Newt Gingrich
J.C. Watts
Anyone else?
(who said the conservatives were not inclusive?)
Paul Ryan
