Not to mention the fact that if the kids are staring at the screen, then their eyes would appear to be looking down since the camera is on top of the monitor. If they were looking at the camera (which they would have to in order for the image on the video to appear to be staring at you), then they would not be able to be looking at the opponent's eyes to see when he blinks.
Cute imagery for a commercial, but it wouldn't have worked.

That's because everything is political. Not what is best for the individual or the country.... Its about power.. plain and simple.

Oh, right! I remember now. I think they were just trying to be inclusive to all viewers. That actually confused me. I thought it would be the other way around. I always thought Francine looked more black.
The impoverished part would have to be stretching it. Garbage collectors aren't rich, but they don't make a bad salary.

In the early 90's, at some seminar or other my company used to love sending me to, I asked a twenty something black woman what 'diversity' meant.
She answered, "Getting rid of all those 50yr old white guys."

Dairy Queen has a commercial of a man with his legs spread, giving birth.
It's an emasulating portrayal of men.
I'm so fed up with the man-bashing and white-bashing in this nation.

Most TV shows and TV commercials have this same reinforced image: Fat, slobby, and stupid white male versus a) A hot, shapely, smarter and wiser wife who clearly is the leader although her too macho-dumb spouse doesn't get it; or, b) Smart kids who easily outwit the dimwit and slobby dad.
Exactly. What's funny is that I'll point out examples like this to my Wife or my Sisters and they will honestly tell me they never saw them that way.
I find it very instructive to pay attention to the commercials on at night and make note of how many portray white guys as uniformly fat, balding, clueless and stupid as opposed to the uniformly smart women who have it all together in spite of their knuckle dragging Neanderthal husbands.
Thanks for the crude stereotyping, Madison Avenue.

I saw this movie with Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone set in the future. And Snipes was the bad guy.

It is almost always the guy that gets outsmarted by the female. Sometimes it goes way beyond that.
Like the Glad Storage Containers spot where the "stupid white man" has to have the wife (who is leaving on a business trip) leave the family's meals for the coming week in the 'fridge in color coded containers.
Some of the best times I've had as a dad is in the kitchen with my kids whipping up something fabulous.
Hey! Madison Avenue! Men Can Cook!

Good point about the "poor" garbage collectors. But they're not doing so well, financially, speaking, on the show. They're the only characters who live in an apartment, and when Francine needed a new bike, because she HAD TO BE THE FASTEST BECAUSE SHE HAD TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, the family simply could not afford it.

Uh, yeah. You're being oversensitive. Besides, everyone knows that Asians are renowned starers.

It would have been ok to beat an asian. They are not a preferred minority.

Well, a black basketball personality promoting an American brand was shown defeating a Chinese cartoon figure in a humorous Chinese national ad campaign. Chinese blogs were not only not amused, they erupted with rage at the portrayal. Some tried to organize a boycott of the brand. In the end, the brand pulled the ad and apologized for it.
The Chinese like to portray themselves as models of humility. The truth is a little different. Behind closed doors, the arrogance and unfounded over-the-top over-confidence is a little hard to take.

Am I being too sensitive? Yes.
Of course they let the Asian kid win.
We'll just have to content ourselves with being the folks who invented the technology to make it all possible.

Not at all. Minorities are ALWAYS presented as the wiser and smarter, while the whites are the boobs, underlings and dimwitted losers.
Take a random sample of the next ten commercials you see.

I will never forget the killer in the Tom Delay t-shirt on CSI. That was unspeakably over the line.

Its obvious that the major ad agencies that produce these spots have a blatant PC agenda.
To: rabidralph
This has been the norm since the '70's' when TV shows started using the white, evil, crooked, big businessman vs the black, smart, single, welfare mother who organizes the neighborhood and always wins scenario. We all know that black, welfare mothers are smarter than corporate CEOs that is why they are living in the 'hood'.
