So his moral virtue is his political liability. Maybe you'd rather have Jon Cary. I would not.

He also said he wouldn't sign CFR. Don't make him out to be a saint. He is a politician. You don't side with the other Party when the overwhelming majority of your own holds a different psotion. It is selfish to do so.

McCain is a gullible idiot. The media will turn on him were he to ever get the nomination and bury him. He has almost as much baggage as Hillary does. Plus, he's a walking time bomb in my opinion. Something, someday, is going to set him off and we'll have our own version of Howard Dean.

Did you happen to catch Liz Trotta this morning on Fox? If not, she was great (as usual) and concise in pointing out that it was pathetic that none of the personalities doing the news-desks on election night were actually reporters, but rather political hacks -- from Tim Russert an old Mario Como lackey to Katie Couric.

Her comment was this is downright disgusting turn of events and made them so uninteresting that all they could do was read the numbers off a teleprompter or sit and make inane comments because none of them had the experience to be doing what they were doing.

She was tough, and rightly so. Eric Shawn tried to argue about Katie Couric and Liz laughed at him and said "obviously" he had not watched her on the Today Show because she was in no way, shape or form a political reporter with the depth of knowledge to be running the news desk on election night.

They discussed this a little further and Liz pointed out that news was no longer news, but celebrity journalism that once in a while gives a tidbit of real substance.

Laura, asked about the opposition to Miers and if it was sexism, replied it was. GWB was later asked if he agreed. He did.

From the WP: "On NBC's "Today" show, Laura Bush joined President Bush in defending Miers as the "most qualified" person her husband could have appointed to the Supreme Court. She also said it's "possible" that questions about Miers's intellectual qualifications are sexist in nature, a charge other defenders of Miers have made publicly and in private conservations with conservatives opposed to the nomination...William Kristol, a conservative who runs the Weekly Standard and is a leading critic of Miers, said the first lady's suggestion of sexism yesterday is "obviously ridiculous" and indicative of a flailing White House strategy. "It is striking to me they are spending less time explaining the merits of Harriet Miers and more time . . . using liberal talking points to criticize the critics," he said. "I think it is going to backfire."

The racism charge is by memory. It would make a tough quote to do a search for, since the key words would pull up a lot of irrelevant sites.

On CFR: "Asked point-blank on ABC News's This Week on January 23, 2000 whether he would veto McCain-Feingold or Shays-Meehan Bush said he would.

Here's part of the exchange from the show:

GEORGE F. WILL: I want to see if you agree with those who say it would be bad for the First Amendment? I know you're not a lawyer, you say that with some pride, but do you think a president, and we've got a lot of non-lawyer presidents, has a duty to make an independent judgment of what is and is not constitutional, and veto bills that, in his judgment, he thinks are unconstitutional?

GOV. BUSH: I do.

WILL: In which case, would you veto the McCain-Feingold bill, or the Shays-Meehan bill?

BUSH: That's an interesting question. I — I — yes I would. The reason why is two — for one, I think it does respe — res — restrict free speech for individuals. As I understand how the bill was written, I — I - I think there's been two versions of it, but as I understand the first version restricted individuals and/or groups from being able to express their opinion"...Bush goes on to express his support for a corporate soft-money ban

I have not been dishonest. I don't believe you are trying to be dishonest, but you certainly have a poor memory. Please check your facts before making accusations of others.

I hve long thought the Rumsfeld wanted to go for a long time, but the President wasn't ready to let his critics win. I think he agreed to let Rumsfeld go after the election, so it would appear that the critics didn't win, but rather that a distinguished servant had done his part and now wanted to just go retire.

The dems winning Congress back just forced the President to concede that in this case, the critics won, and to let Rumsfeld go, who wanted to go anyway. And that would at least take one bullet out of the dem magazine. Had the Republicans retained the Congress, I think Rumsfeld would have been allowed to retire in January.

It is not about opposition research, it is about Democrat Values versus Republican Values. Democrats will keep on electing the Ted Kennedy type without a thought given to his Drunk driving, Waitress sandwiching, letting Mary Jo K. die, etc, etc, they just have no standards. Republicans, particularly Conservatives will not put up with that stuff. I do not care what you can show about Democrats being thieves like Jefferson, Extortionists like Reid, Unethical, kickbacking, Union Crime thugs like Menedez, it does not matter the DemsRats do not care, they have different or no values as opposed to Republicans. The Cleansing has begun, and in two Years foley will be forgotten and Joe Negron will be on the Ballot and win. Cunningham will be a distant memory, and Tom Delay will undoubtedly win a huge Court Battle, and be a Lobbyist. The only Senate Seat I do not regret losing is Lincoln Chafee in Rhode Island, he stunk up the entire Party.

This is exactly what William Hague said today on one of the Sunday talk shows in Britain that people are getting focused on that there are 2 options for Iraq, immediate withdrawal or phased with date withdrawal whereas there are a lot more options than that.

He said of course we want our servicemen home as soon as possible but we should leave Iraq a stable country. I read between the lines here that he and the Conservative Party certainly would not be pushing the government for withdrawal.

William Hague said that Britain needs to be involved though in the discussions which of course Tony Blair will be via video link this week.

He was asked about Syria and Iran whether Britain should push the US to engage in talks with them regarding the region which is what is rumoured Blair will be pushing for during this video link. William Hague stated we should be concentrating on the more moderate countries in the region and getting dialog with them and to include Syria and Iran is naive at present one would like to in the future but at present it would not be possible.

Personally I do not agree with Tony Blair if he is going suggest talks with Iran and Syria I believe that like William Hague it would be naive to think we can engage with them at present.

Oh dear I hate to admit it but I watch CBS news Monday - Friday on Sky news basically just to see how they present it to give me a better idea of how skewed the DBM are.

We will be in for more than a tough two years. Comprehensive immigration reform and the WH/Dems/RINOs/MSM will make it seem like a great triumph. McCain will be congratulating himself and making it a cornerstone of his campaign. Still, it won't change the reality on the ground and the man on the street will see the difference between the spin and the facts. It is only a matter of time. It took us awhile to understand how terrible the 1986 legislation was.

I agree that like just before 1986, the flood of illegals will increase as they try to get into the country before the law is enacted. The Senate bill actually proposed deporting the millions who have been here less than two years. Of course, no matter what is in the bill, enforcement is the key and there seems to be no stomach for that.

This is a very, very important post, SC.

Thanks.

I would LIKE to think that the Senate Republicans would make an attempt at least to point this out...they still have several weeks as the "Majority"...and they have nothing to lose, is they get up on the Senate floor and make objections re: this kind of information...

And what danger Leahy is in a seat of POWER, like the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee..

History channel now showing very convincing documentary of the foreign terror connection to the Oklahoma City bombing.

Dem and Rep bipartisanship is strongest in stifling the truth.

One reason we lost -- a lot of conservatives that voted in 2004 stayed home and didn't vote. Something I have a hard time wrapping my head around, but a fact.

#249, I am way behind with my dial up connection and too many phone calls today. Agree we need to bring them to their knees, but since they listen in on our conversations on the Sunday Thread, some of the good strategy will have to be done by Freepmail, and Mums the word. The creep DNC already stole our voter vault, and used it thanks to some really low life former Pubbies.

What in the world is wrong with the people who run things in DC? Leahy should not be allowed to even be in government. This is the sort of thing that has really stuck in my craw. Rockefeller does what he does...no problem. Leakers leak national security secrets...no problem. And on and on and on.

Speaking of Neal Boortz. What was with him telling his listeners Conservatives had to pay this time and for people to vote Libertarian (which he said the day after the election he did and was proud he did) and yet the afternoon of the 7th he goes on Sean Hannity's radio show and is saying how bad it looks and they can't give the exit poll results yet, but people really need to get to the polls...

What was with that? I almost felt like I was in a time warp. It was all too two-faced for me. What does it take for people to realize a third party cannot win and if they do this in 2008 we may not like the outcome.

Talking about triangulating into the Hollywood machine, if Geffen succeeds in buying the LATimes, the Clintons have their free message forum for the next two years.
