'Truth' organization wants GOP 'gays' to come out Critics says presence undermining values Republicans say they support

Posted: November 11, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

The president of Americans for Truth says it's time for the homosexuals in the Republican Party to come out of the closet.

"In recent weeks, homosexual activists have sought to 'out' various high-level GOP staffers and leaders as homosexuals, to highlight their hypocrisy in working for a socially conservative party," said Peter LaBarbera.

"Now we in the pro-family movement are calling for full disclosure for a different reason: because homosexual GOP staff and pro-'gay' policies in the party are undermining the wholesome values Republicans say they support," he said.

In those "recent weeks," U.S. Rep. Mark Foley resigned in disgrace after it was revealed that he exchanged explicit instant messages with a male congressional page, and political pundit Bill Maher accused the head of the Republican National Committee, Ken Mehlman, of being a closet "gay."

LaBarbera also accused Virginia Senate candidate George Allen of refusing to support the family agenda, and by virtue of that handing control of the U.S. Senate to the Democrats by losing to challenger James Webb.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee also must rescind its "sexual orientation" policy that provides protections for homosexuals "as inconsistent with the GOP's professed pro-family values," LaBarbera said.

All homosexual staff members in both major parties need to be open about their lifestyle – "in the interest of full disclosure to the public and each member's constituents," the AFT organization said.

Allen's defeat came by a few thousand votes even though the state's marriage protection constitutional amendment – on the same ballot and at the same time – was winning hugely, the AFT noted. Virginia's was just one of seven marriage protection constitutional amendments approved in the election. Twenty states earlier had taken the same action.

"Allen is widely reported to have homosexual staff," the "AFT critique said. "Jay Timmons, a senior Allen Aide and former director of the NRSC, is among those being targeted for 'outing' by homosexual bloggers, as is Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman."

Noting the homosexual newspaper Washington Blade reported several years ago the NRSC has a nondiscrimination policy based on 'sexual orientation,' LaBarbera said, "Who knew that the Republican Party committee responsible for electing senators across the country has embraced the exact same pro-homosexual 'orientation' policy that social conservatives have been fighting for decades?"

As a result of the Foley scandal, just days before the election, he said, social conservatives are learning about a network of homosexual GOP staffers on Capitol Hill who promote policies antithetical to the party's stated "family values."

LaBarbera said the pro-family Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays was outraged two years ago when Sen. Allen refused to sign their pledge supporting tolerance for former homosexuals. He said the senator then went ahead and broke a promise to another pro-family group by backing a pro-"gay" federal "Hate Crimes" bill.

And he supported a pro-homosexual "nondiscrimination" pledge for his Senate office, LaBarbera said.

"George Allen's lukewarm support for Virginia's marriage amendment cost him his Senate seat," LaBarbera said. "Now we are left to wonder: did the stealth influence of gay Republican staffers move him toward this course that would ultimately turn the Senate over to the Democrats?"

The AFT is "dedicated to equipping Americans to confront the homosexual and transgender activist agendas.

Maher told CNN's Larry King Live it's an open secret in Washington that Mehlman is a homosexual and that he has "never denied" it. Maher said he plans to "out" other Republicans in the future.

Rumors of Mehlman's sexual orientation first appeared last year in GQ magazine. The RNC denied the charge. "Ken Mehlman is not gay," said then-RNC official Steve Schmidt. However, when asked directly by "gay" publications, Mehlman has dodged the question.

Maher brought up the issue while addressing reasons Republicans lost Congress. He said the Foley scandal hurt Republicans. Foley revealed his homosexuality after resigning from Congress.

And Foley's former chief of staff Kirk Fordham was recently outed by the Los Angeles Times.

The FBI is investigating reports that another "gay" Republican lawmaker, Jim Kolbe of Arizona, engaged in improper behavior with male pages during a camping trip to the Grand Canyon.

Some in Washington have charged the White House and Congress are run by a "Gay Republican Mafia."

Mehlman ought to have asked them why they want Privacy Rights for terrorists, but not gay Republicans.

"I don't care if there are Republican leaders that are gay. If they're good political conservatives - that's fine with me."

That's JUST THE POINT.

Because they are Repubs or gay?

"I don't care that Mehlman is a fudge-packer. I care that he is an incompetent hack..."

He always appeared to be a little light in the loafers but without question he is an incompetent hack.

Conspriracry Theory:

Mehlman intentionally lost the elections in order to advance the Homo Agenda.

Hold on just a minute.

I am a full-fledged Biblical theist, evangelical, conservative Christian. I am against gay marriage, special rights for gays, and believe the lifestyle choice to be sinful.

I am also someone who knows and works with gay people every day. I have family members who are gay, and have friends who have lost family members--gay ones--to AIDS. I have no ill will toward any of them. Frankly, I do not care whether one of my co-workers is gay; that is to say, I don't ask ANYONE about their bedroom activities and sexual desires. Frankly, I don't want anyone, gay OR straight, putting their sexuality on display.

Some of my heterosexual co-workers are slackers; some of the homosexuals are hard-working contributors to our business. And vice-versa.

I think the Cheneys have adopted a great attitude regarding the issue: they keep it private.

Leave people alone; no they don't get to be "married" or get social recognition because of their gayness, but they needn't be hounded either.

This "truth" organization is not reaching out in love to anyone--it is engaging in perhaps a well-intentioned "cleansing" process, but it smacks of an unnecessary witch hunt.

There have been gays in the Republican party since, well, since there has been a Republican party...and there will be gays in every society until time ends.

I thought this was the party that created the right of privacy, never actually part of the Constitution. What about the right of people to have this part of their life private?

Homosexuality is a fringe phenomenon which is no threat to the enduring mass preference for heterosexuality. What the real threat to the family is, is divorce, living together, and begetting illegitimate children. Yet the evangelical population has a high divorce rate, no better than the general population. As an evangelical, I find that very disturbing. The Bible says God hates divorce. Should we start "outing" all the divorced or adulterous Republicans? There wouldn't be many who would escape that classification. Even Reagan was divorced.

[...like Mehlman, who sets strategy and undercuts the family values of the Republican Party, they most certainly will care. Mehlman failed miserably in his strategy. They sat back and allowed the Democrats to attack, attack, and attack and did nothing but act like "girly men".

Truth. The dems know how to fight and have more discretions and criminals in their ranks and yet the pubs are such cowards and never go after the democrat criminals. It is so disappoiting to watch the dems beat the daylights out of the pubs while they bow their heads and do nothing.

This is rediculous. I thought we were the party that let people live thier lives.

What a stupid argument whose sole purpose is to divide Conservatives.

I have gay friends, some are liberal some are conservative. Being Conservative and Gay are not mutually exclusive.

Don't let them drive a wedge in here people

As long as gays dont bother children and keep their perversion amomng consenting adults , its no ones business what they do.

Ahhhh. But they DO want to recruit our children. They DO shove their sexuality in our faces...

There is a definite agenda among the radical homosexual community!

If the simple fact of someone being gay is going to keep you from voting for the GOP, then please stay at home because you're friggin moron. A politician being gay affects you as much as a politician who likes to get freaky with their wife every night, it doesn't. First off most gay politicians in the GOP obviously aren't single issue people (if they were they wouldn't be in the GOP). Second any legislation concerning gays is going to go to the people in one form or another, so you really don't have to worry about it.

Think of it like this if a republican is gay and is: for a trong foreign policy, fiscal restraint, tax cuts, smaller government, doing what is needed to keep america safe, but thinks 2 guys should be able to get married...you're seriously either going to vote for someone with almost the exact opposite views or make it easier for said person.

The want to have the government limit what a gay person can do may not betray conservative SOCIAL philosophy but does betray conservative POLITICAL philosophy. To have the government treat gays differently puts government into peoples private lives, creates more red tape, brings in qoutas, more money has to be spent, etc. For what? To keep something from happening that in the end doesn't affect anyone elses life? And if the republicans open the door to treat people as some want gays to be treated, that opens the door for that treatment to be used against other people. Say like when democrats are in charge they could use the same tactics against religous groups. Do you really want ot open the door to that?

Actually, I remember a statement by the Log Cabin Republicans before the 2004 election -- to the effect of "we feel that national security is the most important issue and so we endorse Bush." If that's not conservative, I don't know what is. One can be gay and also a freedom lover, family values advocate (not all gays are for gay marriage), fiscal conservative, etc. I am proud to have gays in our party because it shines the light on self-serving leftist gays who think of nothing but their "rights." That, IMO, is why the leftist gays can't stand conservative gays -- they're being outclassed.

I think everyone should OUT. I think lesbians need to act like good lesbians, and be PROUD, and straight people should OUT, and act straight. As we say in Spanish, Pan Pan, y Vino, Vino. Bread is bread, and wine is wine. Let the conservatives be known for what they are, the liberals be real liberal, and the people see that people are what they say, and get rid of the hypocrisy, lies, deceit, and cover up. Everyone tell the truth about themselves. Come on. Ted Haggart I tore up your books today. I flushed 'em down the toilet.
