For Liberal Jews basking in the glory of the Democratic Party take-over

November 09, 2006 For Liberal Jews basking in the glory of the Democratic Party take-over Political Analysis from an impeccable source.

And, as warned multiple times prior to the election but, of little concern to those whose primary cause celebre has been stem cell research, third term abortion, phantom loss of female rights and the support of the refugees from Arab terrorism in Darfur! - jsk

Four staunch Senate supporters of Israel lost their re-election contests – Rick Santorum (PA), Mike DeWine (OH), Jim Talent (MO) and George Allen (VA). Allen’s replacement, Jim Webb, who has recently advocated a “regional approach” in the Middle East, is raising concern.

Democrat Senator, Joe Biden (who is running for President in ’08) will take over the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. While his record vis-a- vis Israel is much better than that of Dick Lugar, whom he will replace, Biden can be erratic at times.

Pat Leahy, who will chair the Judiciary Committee, is also in line to chair the Foreign Operations Subcommittee of Appropriations. He has been a frequent critic of Israel and has supported relatively few positive initiatives.

In the House: Five very senior Democrats who will assume committee chairmanships must be ranked in the bottom 10% of the class (of 435) when it comes to Israel-related issues:

David Obey (Appropriations) John Conyers (Judiciary) John Dingell (Energy and Commerce) George Miller (Education and Work Force) Nick Rahall (Resources)

Recently all five voted against the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act, which passed 361 to 37!

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not been that involved in our issues – she has been generally supportive and has ties to the Jewish community, the key contest will be for Majority Leader. If Jack Murtha (not good), beats Steny Hoyer (excellent), for Majority Leader – it will really be bad news. A lack of support from many in the Black Caucus also continues to be a problem, as well as the emerging influence of the extreme liberal wing of the Democratic Party exemplified by MoveOn.org. Two newcomers, Gerald McNerney in California – a protégé of Israel-bashing former Rep. Pete McCloskey, and the first Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison, can be expected to join the “bad guys” list – taking the place of the departed but unlamented Cynthia McKinney.

On the positive side, Rep. Tom Lantos is in line to take over as chair of the House International Relations Committee. Israel has no stronger, effective, committed supporter in Congress. The new chair of the Foreign Operation Appropriation Committee will be Rep. Nita Lowey, also a big plus. Assuming Rep. Ike Skelton takes over as chair of Armed Services, there is no problem here. Finally, John Hostettler (R-IN), who has a poor record of support, was defeated by Brad Ellsworth whom the PAC supported. “

While the direction of the Democratic Party leftward is troubling, it could be offset somewhat by the election of a number of new moderate/centrist Members. At least six new Jewish Members – all Dems – were also elected.

Bottom Line: Thankfully, we can expect continued bi-partisan support for Israel in the 110th Congress. But there is a small cadre of 40-50 House Members (excuse me, Mr. Expert, but how is a “cadre of 40-50 House members, equaling near 10% of the House, “small” Jsk) who cannot be considered friendly, all Democrats except for half a dozen. There are also several Senators who are problematic. This all means we have our work cut out for us in the ’08 election cycle – which is already shaping up.

Yes, I saw that statement by Rice and I'm aware of it. She should not have been addressing that group at all.

I don't think that one statement should detract from her fairly good record of nearly six years in the Bush administration. Under a Dhimmi administration, I'm afraid that the Palis would have continued to receive US aid even after they voted in Hamas, which would have only made life for Israel that much harder.

Plus I have yet to hear even one (non-Arab) Israeli politico complain publicly about the US being in Iraq. That's because they know that eliminating Sadaam means one less enemy to be concerned about and the current Iraqi regime - regardless of all its problems - is no threat to lob missiles into Israel as Sadaam did.

I try to read between the lines. And I can't stand the idea that the US would not stand behind Israel.

Then you must not be able to stand Condi Rice, acting in her official capacity as the appointed Secretary of State by the Bush administration...

...and therefore, by extension, not be able to stand the 'actual' administration policy (as opposed to what is said in administration speeches) toward Israel that she is charged with upholding.

The US, regardless of what they say publicly, must stand behind Israel. Period.

I used to, but I've decided that I can't waste my time worrying about people who are suicidal. I understand 87 percent of the Jews voted Demoncrat this time. Well, good luck to you. I wish you all the best. It's going to really suck when Israel is attacked and the Demoncrats look the other way.

It is soooo mind bugling that over 80% Jews are voting (D)!

It does NOT make any sense, but oh so do also many blacks!!

On another thread I was asking if we don't have any Jewish FReeper who can explain this mystery to us???

Must be that they are spoon-fed from the synagogues NOT to trust or associate with Christians = (R). Just like the muzzies are taught in their mosques to hate all Christians and Jews!!!

Yes, it should and must...

...but it currently isn't, at the behest of the current administration.

Both the Democrat or Republican parties are just as willing to toss Israel to the wolves for a few extra barrels of oil. Israel really needs to wake up and realize that. Then it needs to take a hard look around and find a patron state that is willing to lend a hand regardless of what the slavering hordes of Islam think.

And right now, that's looking like either India or China. It'll probably be most likely India, as they have just as an intense problem with Islam as Israel does. And they have a very large manufacturing sector that could be put to use building Merkava tanks and any other item in the Israeli stockpile.

It's true. Jews are very reluctant to recognize their own bigotry. On my wife's side my children are Jewish under Jewish law. My wives maternal grandmother was Jewish. When her grandmother married a goim they sat shiver for her. She was accepted by the Christians but not by the Jews. There are many Jewish country clubs that only have token goim membership. Nonetheless, the old northernern Wasp country clubs barred jews. Now these two groups are both pals in the democratic party.

Not in synagogue. However the constant dwelling on past Christian anti-Semitism and the cult of the Holocaust can lead to this mistrust. (The Grandchildren of those who did nothing to stop the Holocaust seem fascinated with it, and are trapped by the same liberalism that kept their grandparents from acting.)
This is the politics of resentment. It warps people.

I think that American Christians care more about the future of Israel than American Jews."

American Christians believe in Jesus as the Son and try to live as Jesus commanded.
Jews don't

Alan Schneider would have been a good senator, but many Republicans stuck with Lieberman without giving him a chance.
Eric Cantor is a good American and will probably make a damn good Minority Whip if Blunt tries to move up.

Ron
PS. SEnator Allen is as Jewish as many of the people on the list, except that they tout their heritage.

Hello!!!

If you had bothered reading the title to this thread, and then read my entire post, you might have noticed what I was talking about... It had nothing to do with September 11, 2001. The topic is "why do Jews continually vote dem," and the issue I was addressing in particular is "why do Jews seem to fear Christians more than islamists."

So "Hello" back at you! Do you need a remedial reading class? I didn't say that muslims want to kill only Jews. I said that muslims ONLY want to kill Jews, while (some) Christians want to convert them. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MEANINGS!

And no, in response to a different post of yours, Jews aren't "spoon-fed from the synagogues NOT to trust or associate with Christians = (R). Just like the muzzies are taught in their mosques to hate all Christians and Jews!!!" In many cases, it comes from a warped viersion of history. I can tell you that my grandfather used to tell me that I should never trust a Christian. But that came from his personal history, growing up in Poland, living through pograms, being a bootmaker for the Czar's army, escaping the Russian revolution, and eventually he lost his entire family in the holocaust. Frankly, he didn't trust anyone except other Jews, since they were the only people who ever helped him. So, I could understand his mistrust. On the other hand, many of today's "Jewish leaders" use that as a bludgeon to help promote their leftist agenda.

Mark
