Eight House races remain without winners after Tuesday's election, with Republican incumbents in tight contests to keep their seats and state officials not rushing to end the dispute.
Rep. Deborah Pryce, a member of the House Republican leadership, is ahead in her central Ohio race by 3,536 votes. In the Columbus, Ohio- area, elections officials are delaying the count of more than 9,000 provisional ballots by one day so it doesn't disrupt the much-vaulted Ohio State-Michigan football game on Nov. 18.
Elections officials in that district will start counting Nov. 19.
Ohio Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt, who called Democratic Rep. John Murtha a coward, is ahead of her challenger by 2,862 votes. Rep. Barbara Cubin, who threatened to slap her wheelchair-bound Libertarian opponent after a debate, is ahead by fewer than a thousand votes in her Wyoming contest.
Of the eight uncalled races, only one _ Joe Courtney's challenge to Republican Rep. Rob Simmons in Connecticut _ gives a Democratic challenger the lead. In that race, Courtney is ahead by a scant 166 votes. Almost a quarter of a million votes were cast.
A Thursday recount in Hebron, Conn., gave Simmons one more vote. Recounts were scheduled in 74 other towns through the weekend.
In Florida, a recount is set to begin Wednesday in Rep. Katherine Harris' former district. Republican Vern Buchanan has a 373-vote lead and has declared victory over Democrat Christine Jennings. The Associated Press has declared Buchanan the winner.
In Georgia, first-term Democratic Rep. John Barrow, facing a rematch against former Republican Rep. Max Burns, leads by fewer than 600 votes.
In Washington state, the count in a suburban Seattle district was delayed by heavy flooding, leaving incumbent Republican Rep. Dave Reichert ahead of challenger Darcy Burner three days after voting ended.
Other races that remain undecided include North Carolina Rep. Robin Hayes' campaign against Larry Kissell, separated by 449 votes; and New Mexico Rep. Heather Wilson's race, where Democrat Patricia Madrid trails by about 1,600 votes.

He is. I heard this morning that there are still over 200,00 absentee ballots left to be counted. They are not for his district only but state-wide.
I have no doubt that the people of Columbus, Ohio believe that the football game is the most important thing around. I suppose I am asking people to pat their heads and rub their stomachs at the same time.
And therin lies the problem with most of this country. We are more concerned about our sports teams, entertainment, movie stars, and recreation than we are about protecting our rights and keeping our eyes on what the government is doing to us EVERY SINGLE DAY!
If we paid as much attention to our so called leaders as we do the other crap, this country would be in a hell of a lot better shape.

If out of these ten seats the GOP manages to hang on to five, what is the makeup of the House in 2007?
201R, 234D. If Republicans win 8 out of 10, then it's 204R, 231D. This is the most likely scenario.

Why didn't they just move election day to the end of the football season? Why bother having elections at all? After football there's like, hockey, basketball, baseball, then probably some olympics somewhere, skating, badmitton...
If we can win the House and the Presidency in 2008 (yes, EVEN with McCain, I know you all hate him) the democrats would be able to do NOTHING to damage our country then, even if they won a couple of more seats.
McCain would be good on judges, he's sound socially, and he can't really do any more damage on CFR as president than he already has done. And he is a fiscal conservative, he opposed the medicare prescription stuff, and while I think he was too hard on the president about what rights he had for fighting the war, I don't think he is wrong in how HE would have fought the war.
I know, we can't trust him, he's a rino, he cost us seats, and he is unelectable. And we wouldn't be able to push our tax cuts through without the senate, but we couldn't push them through WITH the senate.
Obviously having a senate majority now would be better, but we have to look at what we are stuck with.
With good candidates, and maybe a couple of defections in the ranks of democrats who didn't like what it cost them to be democrats, we could take back the house.
Think the moonbats will be energized to go out for their candidates if they DON'T impeach bush, or enact their liberal agenda? And if they DO pass minimum wage and a couple other middle-class "feel-good" things, what will be left for the democrats except liberal agenda? The more they accomplish, the less reason there is to vote them back.
But it is IMPERATIVE that the republicans purge their ranks, push a STRONGER lobbying bill than the democrats do, make it clear that WE have learned our lesson and are going to work for the people, not the lobbyists.

Rep. Schmidt read the opinion of a constituent, a Marine officer, I believe.
I don't know Breitbart.com but the person who typed in this article is too lazy to check facts or a liar.
And I don't care one whit that MSM employees, like Howard Kurtz, object to Ms Schmidt reading the officer's letter.
To wit, Kurtz typed in this: "But when she attacks [Murtha] by attributing the denunciation to some colonel, let's be clear: She's still attacking him. The device of attributing it to someone else is just that, a device used by professional politicians."
The "device" is also used far, far too much by MSM employees -- the difference is the MSM employees claim their "sources" must remain anonymous -- sure. Today's MSM employees are skid marks on journalism's undershorts, Mr. Kurtz.
They didn't even tell us the evil thing he said (I think it was something about her not protecting "children" from Foley).

When they count the provisional ballots, do they make sure they are good votes? I seem to recall that the provisional ballots are those people who may have voted that were not qualified to vote, and thus the reason for casting a provisional ballot. If they are just counting them, they could all be fraud votes.
