Two Italians in European Parliament campaign for Israel to enter EU
By Meron Rapoport, Haaretz Correspondent
Italian members of the European Parliament intend to embark on an international campaign to further a proposal to include Israel in the European Union after peace agreements are signed in accordance with international law.
Behind the initiative are the two MEPs of a small party, the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, one of whom, Marco Cappato, arrived in Israel to further the idea.
Cappato plans to participate in the Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem tomorrow, which he describes as a struggle "against all types of fundamentalism: Christian, Muslim, Jewish."
The Italian MEP says Israel is threatened, both as a national minority in the Middle East and also because of the dangers posed by Iran and Hezbollah.
"The sense of fear is real," Cappato says, "and one of the ways through which the Israelis could overcome the fear and reach settlements with the Palestinians and the Syrians is through joining a large block like Europe."
If Israel joins Europe, the Italian MEP explained, it will be safer because an attack on Israel will constitute an attack against Europe, "an attack against London or Rome."

The European representative also said an Israeli application for European Union membership will bolster those in the country supporting concessions because peace accords will not only be based on a deal with Arab states but will be backed by 450 million Europeans.
My advice to Israel.
Tell the EU to shove it.
They'd be the only EU member with a non-muslim sustainable birthrate.
I totally agree with that one freeper Israel would be only EU country that substain birthrate
Wouldn't they be required to let the citizens of any EU country move into Israel? Imagine if Arabs from France demanded the right to move to Israel.

Don't you love this sale pitch said the wolf to red riding hood - 450 million of us, all the better to eat you.
The EU would sooner admit the Palestinians.
Israel in NATO... YES!
Israel in the EU..NO!
If Israel becomes a member of the EU it cannot remain a Jewish state de jure. In fact, Arabs from countries such as France will have a right to move to Israel and vote to turn it into an de facto Arab Muslim state.
YEAH LOLOL!
Like wolf at the door
I wonder Israel would accept EU membership
Like the majority of posters, I am also strongly opossed to Israel joining the EU. After England and France have consistently pandered to their Muslim populations who are the perpetrators of numerous anti semetic attacks, ignoring their sizable Jewish populations, I want nothing to do with European liberals. Surprisingly, one of the few European countries who doesn't go out of their way to carry water for militant Islam and is also somewhat sympathetic towards Israel is Poland. Its a shame that anti semitism is so common in Poland today. Nevertheless, I admire the Poles for preserving traditional values, unlike much of Western Europe. I would like to see a solid alliance between Israel and Poland.
This is reason enough to decline any proposal coming from this guy.

The EU ultimately holds sway over its members. Israel already doesn't get equal treatment at the UN. Let the UN members treat Israel equally before offering membership into the EU.
The EU will be begging to be admitted to Israel, whatever's left of it after the moslum population bomb explodes.
