Charlie Rangel: "Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" (..Said the Man From Harlem!!)
http://michellemalkin.com/archives/006337.htm ^

Posted on 11/09/2006 12:43:12 PM PST by WBL 1952

Charlie Rangel opens his mouth...and mocks the South: (hat tip: reader CRB)

“It’s not just committees — our influence within the House Democratic caucus will grow enormously,” Mr. Rangel said in an interview.

To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here.

“Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?” Mr. Rangel said.

Good thing Rangel is a Commie 'RAT. A Republican couldn't get away with saying this kind of crap.

I am in N. AL but was born in MS. Both states are wonderful. I do not want that character anywhere near either state. He sure would ruin either with his presence.

I've never been to MS but my son has twice. He had nothing but good to say about the state.

I can't imagine an elected official making a statement like that, it's despicable.

My daughter went to AF tech school in MISS. She said it was hot and sticky but, it didn't smell of urine or Rangel's breath.

Almost feel like I should buy another gun and more ammo.

We added another rifle to our collection yesterday. I've already bought more ammo, will buy a couple boxes aevry week-end until I feel we have enough.

It makes good sense.

Oh, and buy from a private party if you can.

It sounds almost as if Charles Rangel is opposed to the progressive income tax. I'm pretty sure that's not true.

No, no, don't you see ... Rangel is a strict Federalist. To Rangel, what's made in New York stays in New York (if it's money). He believes in redistributing the money of New York's rich to New York's poor (preferably Harlem), not to poor people in some other state.

When it comes to homeland security, however, Charlie has no problem bringing in money from other states to preserve the safety of New Yorkers.

Here's my letter to the NYT at letters@nytimes.com

I'm astounded by the quote from Congressman Rangel in "After Years in the Outs . . ." by Patrick Healy. To claim to be a leader and ask, "Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" shows more than insensitivity. It shows ignorance of the purpose of defense.

Mr. Rangel, the point is that no one wants to die in Mississippi or anywhere else because you didn't take Homeland Security seriously and treated it as a regional, rather than National, matter.

I was born in a little town south of Tupelo, Houston. It is one of the nicest places around. It is a small town but they raised over $100,000 for the solar car team to go to Australia. My relatives still live there including my 102 year old mother.

I'll bet Miss. is beautiful in the spring too, but I have only seen it in the fall. If I hear one more person tell me they are going to Vermont for the fall leaves, I am going to scream (like Vermont is the ONLY place they turn red). We lived for 2 years in Yorktown Virginia and they have a beautiful leaf season too. Nothing much happens here on the Texas Gulf Coast. Well, that isn't completely true, the poison ivy turns red. LOL!

The people of Mississippi did themselves proud when the dealt with the devastating effects of Katrina. I was so moved by their courage and their can do attitude.

I would proudly live in Mississippi. NJ is rotten to the core.

I seem to remember New York getting about $20 billion in standalone funding to compensate for 9/11 and there were quite a few people from the Deep South who went there as firefighters, rescue people and even to clean apartments of dust and debris from the Trade Center. I guess Rangel has forgotten this.

"I did not foresee that it would break down so quickly."

Why not? Clinton changed from a "centrist" promising tax cuts on the campaign trail to a full-blown socialist raising taxes through the roof, shooting for national socialized medicine, and a huge gun ban all between November and January.

This is their method. Say whatever to get power, then go full blast with moonbat policies. Fortunately this madness on their part really galvanizes the American public.

In the meantime, hopefully W will exercise a few vetos, because it's taken us 12 years of Congressional control to undo *some* of what Bill and the 93-94 Dim congress did.
