"Right. And, now that the election's over, and the American electorate has spoken, the troops are now bolting for the exits as fast as they legally can. They know the knife's coming in January."

Bush's conciliatory tone toward the Dem's may be a desperate attempt to keep that from happening. Someone said that GHW Bush caved in on the tax increases to get the Demons to support Desert Storm. If W is anything, he is his father's son. He may give something to the Dark Side in order to "unify the country" prevent another Vietnam. I have many issues with Bush, but he is not a traitor. He may make deals, but he will not sell out totally. I hope.

Me too. Just found this on Yahoo. I guess it wasn't on FNC...

"The fact that Rush Limbaugh even thinks that he has "carried water" for the administration for the past few years is the biggest laugh I have ever heard in my life.

He is simply the Oprah of the right."

You lose all credibility with that post. Rush has been very important the past two years. He held his tongue the past few months and encouraged disillusioned conservatives to vote Republican. He did his part for the Party.

Bill Kristol needs to be banned forever from FOX. He IS gleeful, the jerk has never forgiven Dubya for not making him a part of his Whitehouse.

So...what you are saying is that it's all about YOU and how the candidate makes YOU feel?

I didn't like my R candidate either, but I voted R for the troops' sake.

He saved a bunch of money on his car insurance by switching to GEICO.

Thanks a lot, dfwgator! You owe me a new monitor and keyboard from where I spit my coffee all over this one! Too funny!

We just lost a big election and people are going to vent. This is to be expected and I'm sure there will be a shaking out period. Some people are going to move on, others will join in. Alliances will shift. People will sharpen their objectives and goals.

Well said...

The part I caught in the Rose Garden was essentially how the Dems & Pubs have to work together, blah, blah, blah. No announcement was made of any other person resigning, etc. The President was glum-looking. That was it. On & off.

Bush's conciliatory tone toward the Dem's may be a desperate attempt to keep that from happening.

I don't think it will work. There is no so capable of cruelty as someone convinced of his or her utter righteousness, and the libs in Congress have self-righteousness the way others have BO and halitosis.

Thanks! I also found a transcript:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Following is a transcript of President Bush's statement Thursday in the White House Rose Garden, accompanied by members of the Cabinet.

BUSH: Earlier this week, the American people went to the polls and they cast their ballots for a new Congress. The American people made their decision. I respect the results. So does my Cabinet.

I want to congratulate the Democrat leaders on the victory they achieved for their party. In a few minutes, Congresswoman [Nancy] Pelosi, [D-California], and Congressman [Steny] Hoyer, [D-Maryland], will be here for lunch. I'm looking forward to that visit.

I'm also looking forward to my visit with Sen. [Harry] Reid, [D-Nevada], and Sen. [Richard] Durbin [D-Illinois], tomorrow.

We'll discuss the way forward for our country, and I'm going to tell them what I just told our Cabinet. It is our responsibility to put the elections behind us and work together on the great issues facing America.

Some of these issues need to be addressed before the current Congress finishes its legislative session, and that means the next few weeks are going to be busy ones.

The first order of business is for Congress to complete the work on the federal spending bills for this year with strong fiscal discipline and without diminishing our capacity to fight the war on terror.

The other important priority in the war on terror is for the Congress to pass the Terrorist Surveillance Act. We also need to pass the bipartisan energy legislation that's now before Congress.

And on the foreign policy front, we need to complete the work on legislation that will allow us to cooperate with India on civilian nuclear technology and pass trade legislation that will enable us to recognize Vietnam as a member of the WTO [World Trade Organization].

As the new members of Congress and their leaders return to Washington, I've instructed my Cabinet to provide whatever briefings and information they need to be able to do their jobs.

The American people expect us to rise above partisan differences, and my administration will do its part. One of the most important challenges facing our country is the war on terror, and Iraq is a central front in this war. Our country now has more than 149,000 men and women serving bravely in that country.

Whatever party we come from, we all have a responsibility to ensure that these troops have the resources and support they need to prevail. I'm open to any idea or suggestion that will help us achieve our goals of defeating the terrorists and ensuring that Iraq's democratic government succeeds.

Yesterday, I accepted the resignation of one of the original members of my Cabinet, [Defense] Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He could not be with us today because at Kansas State University to deliver the prestigious Landon Lecture and to help dedicate the university's military science building as the Gen. Richard B. Myers Hall.

Don has been an outstanding secretary of defense, a trusted adviser and a loyal friend to me and his fellow Cabinet secretaries. I've named a good man to succeed Don Rumsfeld, former CIA Director Bob Gates.

Secretary Rumsfeld has agreed to stay until Bob is confirmed, and I'm deeply grateful to Don for his service to our country.

Thank you all very much.
