It was NOT a sea change...it was a combination of "midterm throw the bums out" which is normal, the immigration issue, and maybe most importantly, something which was crystal clear right afteer the 04 elections, lack of real leadership in the Senate and too much division among the GOP.

When you look at what happened in the actual elections:

Many of the elections were won by tiny majorities.

Many of the electors thought they were voting for Democrats who they expect to be rather conservative (the jury is truly out on that one).

Many of the key social issues like emminent domain and marriage being between a man and a woman were resoundingly conservative victories.

There was no sea change. This was an election the GOP lost, not the left won.

Well, that was a short & sweet statement to the press. He sure didn't smile much, did he? Wow, what a difference a day makes. How disappointing. Hang in there, Mr. President, and I hope you don't lose your cookies when you have lunch with the jerks today.

"Here is on way to look at this whole thing -- let's be glad that the people got fed up with the Republicans in 2006, rather than 2 years from now. This way, maybe everybody will see the true colors of the democrats and vote republican in the presidential election."

That is the most helpful thing I have read on hear today.

Bush announces log-rolling deal with the Democrats.

Democrats get federal judges.
Bush gets higher gasoline prices.

Everybody wins.

"Here's somebody else I have a problem with...

Bill Krystal.

Am I the only one who noticed how positively gleeful he was talking about Republican losses on Tuesday night? "

I will never forget election night in 2004. We were proud new owners of the Dish Satellite system so we could get Fox News.

Krystal showed his true sneering nature that night, and Paula Zahn was right there with him.

We turned off the tv early, and my wife commented, "I'm really glad we went to Dish to get Fox News to have conservative commentators on tv."

Of course she was joking, but it was a real wakeup call re the trolling mole Kristol. He wasn't and isn't a Republican.

Speaking of FNC and hype, I wonder when they'll slow down the frequency of their FOX News Alerts. They seem to label everything an alert with that characteristic tone that makes you think something huge is coming. Over time, you start to get too used to it, so it loses its effectiveness. I imagine they've received plenty of e-mails about that. Wishful thinking I know, since they've been doing that for years.

I'd love to see Heath Schuler have to make that same choice.

Let's see how Bob Casey Jr. votes as well on measures regarding abortion and embryonic stem cells. I am fairly certain they would be exposed as liars and hypocrites.

The troops know that the American people didn't stand behind them the one time it really counted.

When was that? I certainly don't believe that the electorate made that statement on Tuesday.

That was Tuesday. My view is sort of somewhere in the middle of you two. I think that a big chunk of the middle who went over to the Dims did so because they are "war weary".

It's just way to much to ask of some people that they endure five minutes a night of Iraq coverage. Which is their sole exposure, other then that small portion of their annual tax bill that goes to war appropriations.

It's almost enough to make one wish for a good scrap metal drive.

I think Tuesday was nothing more then an exercise in wishful thinking on the part of many who voted. Let's go back to the 90s.

Let's get back to our vacation from History.

We lost the independents

That was going to be a hard one no matter what the Republican did. The Indies are about themselves. About their single issues. Indies are above the fray. Can't decide which side of America or the war they are on. So, they went for anything "but"...

Bill Krystol!!! Slowly I turn, step by step inch by inch...

You probably haven't been here long enough to know my visceral dislike of that MOLE who does nothing but cause trouble for the Bush family, going all the way back to 1992!!

I am firmly convinced that he engineered the Jeffords jump, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that he advised Allen to make some of his stupid campaign statements, the way he did when he was Dan Quayle's Chief of Staff.

NOT to be trusted, and I pay no attention to the Weekly Standard either because of him.

So, I am not surprised he looked gleeful. I was spared watching this, however, because I turned Fox off.

Ya'll vent all you want-- the enemies (internal and external) are all listening and laughing at you...

Let them laugh. They think the ruination of this country is funny..let them laugh.

When their children get on school buses with suicide bombers, when USA cities are terrorized daily, you think they will continue laughing?

Me, I could not care less who runs this country D or R, as long as they love this country! Those who may laugh at us do not love this country, they HATE all Republicans, some with no reason

They are gleeful in their dark, vengeful hearts, they seek to pay back for that scum bag, draft dodger clinton, blind to the corruptness of him and all his dirty little minions!

Let them laugh! They laugh along with the god of the underworld and WE will have the LAST LAUGH. Most assuredly.

The single-issue voter left the GOP.

The Democrat Party is made up of single issue voters, however they seem to understand better than the Republicans the real bottom line

You can't get jack done if you are not in power, so they hold their nose and pull the lever. Period.

Seems to me the American electorate stood shoulder to shoulder with the troops in both 2002 and 2004, the latter presidential election being a lot more important than 2006.

And the troops are saying, "That was then. This is now. And you've just stabbed us in the back RIGHT NOW."

But further divisiveness is not going to make the troops safer, today or tomorrow. The election is over.

Right. And, now that the election's over, and the American electorate has spoken, the troops are now bolting for the exits as fast as they legally can. They know the knife's coming in January.

I don't think the statement's been made yet... he seems to be running late. However, I could be wrong because I wasn't here for the whole thread - only skimmed through looking for anything.

Was it made?"

Me too, but all I've read is squabbling.

I certainly don't believe that the electorate made that statement on Tuesday.

They may have not INTENDED to make that statement. But that's the statement they ended up making.
