Bush to make statement with his cabinet in Rose Garden at 11:35 AM...
Your guess is probably right but all of that tends only to capture an objective reason for what is often an emotional decision. The President had done quite well in 2000, 2002 and 2004 in getting that emotion on the right side but it just didn't happen this go around. Judges, pro-marriage, national defense, etc. couldn't create the emotional buy in. And the Dems, for the most part, not only stopped feeding that appetite but created their own emotional tie with issues of corruption, Iraq, tax cuts for the rich, etc.
Not for long.
My niece's command recruiter lost FOUR sure-thing reenlistments yesterday, first thing in the morning.
The troops are going to vote with their feet. They can read the writing on the wall.
Sorry to hear about your mom! Prayers said for a speedy recovery!!
Ok...but ping me when the insanity stops. LOL I feel like I'm at DU the day after the 2004 election.
A little reading comprehension might help. I never claimed to be a big supporter of GW. I said that, yes, I have said positive things about GW since he took office. That was your question, and despite my not needing to give you an answer about anything, I answered it.
Here's somebody else I have a problem with...
Bill Krystal.
Am I the only one who noticed how positively gleeful he was talking about Republican losses on Tuesday night?
What did he say??????
Can anybody tell me what the Pres. said?
It's the "New Tone", don'tcha know.
Rumsfield had to go, the Rats would have made his life hell for two years. I would not at all be surprised to learn Rumsfield insisted Bush accept his resigation this time. Bush did not dump him, he just had to go, too many enemies and not enough friends.
Something about promoting trade with Vietnam, important to support the troops, and Rumsfeld is a good guy. Could have been an afternoon presser through Snow. The whole cabinet thing was little much.
Ewwww...she thinks she's cute. Stop smiling at her, Mr. President!
I was just being sarcastic...its not the point, and it doesn't matter.
Gramps just could never accept that everyone else doesn't think EXACTLY like him...kinda like a grumpy old man.
I'm with you, katieanna. I must have blinked and missed whatever was the statement. Miss M, did you catch it? Anybody?
I disagree. Most of what I've seen have been good discussion, although as always there are childish rants thrown into the mix.
And I do believe he is doing his best, against all odds. Imagine dealing with the type of media he has faced...every day. And the threats of 9-11, terrorists, Katrina, the recession he inherited, a Congress that will not cooperate or do much of anything, etc. I do not know how he has done it and kept his sanity and his resolve. But he has.
Well, first of all, he's the President of the United States. The things you cited are all part of the job description, so I don't give him extra credit for simply doing what is supposed to be done.
His results on foreign policy depend upon the viewer. In a sense we probably lost our majorities because of the war in Iraq. Each person will have to decide whether that was a tradeoff that needed to be made to win the WOT, or whether in retrospect it was a mistake. I won't pass judgment on that either way in this thread.
On the domestic side, I blame the entire party for their corrupt practices and ridiculous spending. Bush gets a share because he's a party member, but the blame falls evenly on all the GOP leadership.
" To all those Pubs who stayed home to teach a lesson, thank you very much..."
Same happened with Perot and Bush 41...then we got Clinton
Relative to other Presidents, Bush has had relatively little turnover during his 6 years in office. People always leave the last two years of the second term to get a jump on opportunities in the private sector or in academia.
That's what I can't understand. Either you know what you stand for or you don't. And if you're in between on an issue or two you still vote for the party closest to your belief.
Where have I said "conservatives" stayed home? Others are making that claim. Should I not believe them? The base voted. I voted.
