I'd like to know where all those absentee ballots went! They were all supposed to be counted this morning, Thursday. Yet he took the defeat. What if those absentee ballots put him over the top? Then what?
It just seems that our absentee ballots aren't counting for anything. It really upsets me.

I think this is a classy move; the Al Gore method of whining and crying and all that is for liberal jackasses.
If there were a legitimate reason (like the Washington state governor's race last cycle), I could see it...but this isn't likely to change.
Conservatives are such grown-ups; Ann Coulter points this out in her latest column...no "Diebold ripped us off" crying.
That being said, I'm very sorry to see Allen go. He is a good man.

The press is declaring Webb the winner? Just heard on the local news that Allen hasn't given up. The reason being that broken machines(s) in Isle of Wight County have not been counted.
Someone please refresh my memory: just who is supposed to declare the winner in any political race?

This makes Joe Lieberman the most powerful man in Washington. He can threaten to cross over if the Dems try ANYTHING he doesn't like.

Sorry but he came off as weak and ran a terrible campaign against a pervert.
pathetic.

He ran a bad campaign. The awww shucks I'm cowboy boot wearinin tobacco chewing good ol boy collapsed under real pressure.....throw in after the maacaca thing and the Washington Post pile on. It was OK in the 80's but after 9/11 it came off as a frat boy look compared to a decorated Marine like Webb.

Allen is not going to be a Presidential contender.
To: areafiftyone
I hate to see Allen go down. I like and admire him and think that he deserved to win but he had a great big target painted on him by the Washington Post and the DC area TV stations and they went all out to asassinate his character and they were laregly successful.
But to be honest, at 51-49, or 50-50 or 49-51 it really doesn't matter who controls the Senate as long as the GOP is as willing to use the rules to their advantage as the 'Rats were. If the GOP side of the Senate wakes up and realizes that their conservative principles are worth fighting for we'll be no worse off than we were when we controlled the Senate and the 'Rats controlled the agenda. The shoe's on the other foot now...I hope the GOP has the guts to stand and fight.

Yes--Richard Nixon
But GFA has to start the rehabilitation -- right now-- drop any thought of recount...

Sets him up to run for Gov of Virginia in '09
Most successful Pres runs are from Governorships, NOT the Senate. A second term as Gov puts him in great position in 2012, IMHO.

Amazing that this slow witted guy was the early favorite among Freepers for the Presidency in 2008. Again, I attribute it to the giddy man-crush many conservatives have on slow witted, easily befuddled guys who wear cowboy boots and a cowboy hat.
