The threat from international Islamist terrorism is growing, Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett will say later.
Addressing a conference in London, Mrs Beckett will urge British Muslims to speak out against extremism.
She will tell delegates it is dangerous nonsense to see military action in Iraq as part of an anti-Islamist agenda.
And she will warn those calling for a quick exit by UK troops that this would leave the Iraqi government powerless to prevent even worse violence.
The UK's 1.6 million Muslims have a "special ability" to counter extremist propaganda about a "clash of civilisations" between Islam and the West, she will say.
And she will urge them to act as "ambassadors for Britain" by speaking up about the reality of life in the UK when they visit countries with large Muslim populations.
Addressing the foreign affairs think-tank the Royal United Services Institute in London, Mrs Beckett will warn that the threat from international Islamic terrorism "remains serious and is increasing".
She will point out that MI6 now has more people in more countries than ever before and that MI5 has more frontline staff in Britain than at any time since World War II - all working to prevent attacks.
But she will add: "The Muslim communities in this country did not ask the terrorists to act in their name. The vast majority are sickened by the slur on their great and noble faith.
"They make a huge and vital contribution to the life of this country. And they, the Muslim communities, have a special ability to make a difference in the struggle against extremism."
I'm sure the Islamonazis who run the BBC, the Guardian, the Independent, the Daily Mirror and the Labour and LD parties think this is all the fault of us Jooooooos.
I think it's too late already for Londinistan and Britainistan. We're off to Texico instead; at least the cholos don't try to blow you up there. :-))))))))
There may some great and noble muslims but islam is anything but great and noble. It is a cult of death and hatred.
Humanity cannot look on islam clearly when world leaders continue to support its lies.
Don't be ridiculous.
Absolutely. That reference to their great and noble faith blurs, what might otherwise have been a strong message.
As far as I'm concerned, the threat just skyrocketed in this country over the last 48 hours.
You can say that again. Every world leader should be FORCED to read America Alone by Mark Steyn.
I for one am TIRED of everyone giving up on Britain and saying that it is COMPLETELY MUSLIM. That's akin to saying there are too many Mexicans living in the US and because of this the majority of America is Catholic. Balderdash!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Denial is a powerful urge.
She will tell delegates it is dangerous nonsense to see military action in Iraq as part of an anti-Islamist agenda
But it is. Note anti-Islamist agenda, note anti Islam. There is a difference you know.
What's the word on Margaret Beckett? Is she a comer or just another fair to middling pol?
Hear, hear.
There are some on this group who bash Britain to make themselves feel better about their own situation. When you tell them that Britain is 92.1% white anglo saxon celtic christian and that the total number of ethnic minorities of all types in Britain is less than just the total number of muslims in the US, they are often surprised.
As they sink deeper into liberalism, open borders and the north american union, they will realise Britain is really the last, best hope.
Tony Blair's appointment of her as Foreign Secretary has come under increasing criticism, with many suggesting that Beckett is out of her league in the role. According to the Times she does not stand up well in comparison with the previous Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw. The Spectator recently described her as, "at heart, an old, isolationist, pacifist Leftist" and has called on her to resign.
She also saw some criticism in April 2006 when the details of Ministers' use of RAF aircraft for official travel were published. Beckett was discovered to have taken 134 flights on ministerial business between 2002 and March 2005, flying 102,673 miles. The press noted also that Lionel Beckett frequently accompanied her on trips, leading to his being described as the "political equivalent of a Wag" (the latter being an acronym used to describe the wives and girlfriends of England football players) (Times, 23 July 2006).
In August 2006, 37 Labour party members in her constituency left the party and joined the Liberal Democrats, criticising her approach to the fighting in Lebanon.
Her seat of Derby South as of 2006 has only a majority of just over 5,000 and due to people in her constituency vowing to vote for the Liberal Democrats at the next election, her seat is no longer seen as a safe Labour Seat with many speculating that she could lose her seat at the next election
Which I think just about sums her up.

Thx.
Not trying to be, but home-grown terrorism gives me the heebie jeebies.
The thing is...the PC brigade and the government seem to have already given up on keeping Britain great. I'd love to see the UK get through this and emerge stronger and better for it, but I can't lie; I am not optimistic.
Sorry, I was a bit snippy then.
The UK isn't done yet, and as long as I have breath it never will be.
