"Chris Matthews and Olbermann will spend their entire shows on it now."

Speaking of Matthews, it was about 8:00 last night and I was channel surfing. I immediately knew we were in trouble when I noted that Chris Matthew's eye was not twitching, his cheeks were rosy and both hands were under the desk.

The truth will be we got Zawahiri last week, the info was withheld so that it would not seem to be political.

Spokesman says Rumsfeld gives no indication of quitting

November 08, 2006 11:37 EST

PENTAGON (AP) -- The Iraq war was a key factor in the way many people voted, but the man in charge of the Pentagon may be planning to stay put.

His spokesman says during meetings this morning, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld gave no indication he'd quit his job. But the spokesman acknowledges not knowing whether Rumsfeld discussed his future with his boss, President Bush.

Just days before the election, Bush gave his defense chief a thumbs-up, saying that as long as he's in the White House he wants Rumsfeld at the Pentagon.

The spokesman also says the America's strategy for stabilizing Iraq is unchanged. The plan is still to hand over more control to the Baghdad government while encouraging its leaders to work on reconciliation among the various factions in that country. Rumsfeld also plans to keep relying heavily on the advice of U-S commanders there, to decide the military's approach.

He didn't. He said that other people were speculating about it.

If Rummy goes, I would offer Joe Lieberman the position of Sec of Defense and then let the Republican Gov of CT appoint a Republican Senator in his place.

Majority back.

Sec'y Rice has been sending different signals than were expected. She appears to be to the left of Pres Bush, which contrasts with her tough anti-communist stance of prior years. She will probably be fine with the new Congress. Are any of the Cabinet what might be called definitely Conservative aside from Rumsfeld?

I'm all for cloning if we can clone another Reagan. Or about 535 of them.

Cannot do that. Violation of the 1947 National Security Act.

How about that significant Al Quada hit that happened on Monday? There was early speculation that it might have been OBL. I haven't heard any more about that, but I may have missed it in all the election.

Not really. It sounds more like he's trying to give folks some historic perspective. He's not saying this is good, he's simply saying it ain't over.

I'm with you. I love the prez but he truly is a poor communicator and in this mass media environment, that is deadly. PLUS, I do believe, the war had more support when we taking the fight to the enemy (Fallujah), which should have been repeated in Ramadi, Baquoba, Haditha, Sadr city etc...And when the enemy then begs us for peace, then we seek a political solution.

I agree with that post 100%. Ditto, to every word you said.

The Republicans really are must be the stupid party because we ran one of the worst campaigns in history and could have run on the booming economy, the best warplan ever submitted, the best military we've ever had, the war on terror and the democrat's plans to destroy every plan the Republicans came up with to defeat the jihadists, etc.

It's a long list of how the Republicans caved to a hostile media instead of fighting back and holding such huge press conferences that the media would be FORCED to cover them.

As well, they all caved to the no WMD in Iraq, including the president, despite the fact that 7 people charged with finding those WMD have said it's entirely likely they were taken to Syria pre-war.

They all caved on the Al Qaeda/Saddam relationship, despite the fact that the media wrote hundreds of articles in the 90's about the world's alarm at the growing relationship between Saddam and Osama. Despite the fact that Clinton's own administration mentioned that relationship.

Call it one of the WORST PR campaigns I've ever seen.
