Democrats are set to gain 19 House seats, two Senate seats, and five governorships in tomorrow's elections. It is a sign of Republicans' sorry state that, at this point, this is actually a very favorable outlook for them.
In the last day of the midterm election campaign, we offer a final run-down of how candidates are doing in each contested district or state. We aim to give a complete forecast on tomorrow's competitive election contests in this final-hour newsletter, which will be followed up by a post-election analysis on Wednesday.
Expectations Game: At this point, there will be no new polls, no major news events capable of significantly disrupting the election cycle.
We know one thing for sure: Republicans are going to lose ground in both houses of Congress. The White House presents, as its rosiest scenario, a loss of 12 House seats. This is not entirely impossible, but it is too optimistic for the realistic observer.
If Democrats fail, it will set off an even worse intra-party bloodbath than came after the 2000 and 2004 elections.
If Democrats succeed, it will be for two reasons:
The first is an arrogant and politically tin-eared Republican establishment in Washington. In the handling of key issues such as the occupation of Iraq, the response to Hurricane Katrina, and a meaningful follow-through on Social Security reform, the White House displayed incompetence.

That poodle Graham needs to be EXTRACTED like the cancer he is.
Biased media polls. From the 39 tossup and lean democrats the Democrats may get 3 or 4.
I hope (make that pray) your right
Tha's a mighty long list no one will read. Lemme reduce it to size: CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS, AND BROTHER ALITO.
HOW'S THAT?
All Republican wins; "Expected. Not a surprise. A hold."
All Democrat wins; "Signals a shift! A big movement! The beginning of the end for the GOP!"
There will be MASSIVE spin as early as possible while the MSM attempts to portray a Democrat landslide in order to affect races in the Central, Mountain, and Pacific timezones.

I look forward to hearing what they say when this doesn't happen.
Some Freepers seem to think making wilding nonsensical claims and pronouncements of Doom and Gloom are a substitute for actually doing all the digging and research to actually know something about the issues. They want this bad Freeper habit to end before 2008. I agree with them.
Nice. Are you embroidering a hanky with all the names, Madame DeFarge?
Newsflash: Generally it doesn't look too good for the Republicans, regardless of whose poll you look at. While I hope there is something systematic across all the polls that underestimates likely Republican support, I'll stop way short of ridiculing those who aren't as optimistic. On Britt Hume's show, I just saw all three panel members predict a Republican loss of the house. Kristol's estimate was 32 seats. I hope he's wrong, and think he probably is. But someone on this board predicting a 25 seat loss is hardly a chicken-little...
media polls again... please.
If one guy predicts 32 seats lost, one guy predicts 25 seats lost, and one guy predicts 19 seats lost, I think a prudent person would probably be inclined to think the likely number was somewhere in that range. A person engaged in wishful thinking, on the other hand, would say what you say. And I hope your wishful thinking is on the mark, might I add. But let's call it what it is.
If three football analysts pick the Colts to defeat the Texans by different margins of victory, do you say "Well, it must be a toss-up because these guys can get their predicted scores to line up?" I doubt that you do.
