If one guy predicts 32 seats lost, one guy predicts 25 seats lost, and one guy predicts 19 seats lost, I think a prudent person would probably be inclined to think the likely number was somewhere in that range. A person engaged in wishful thinking, on the other hand, would say what you say. And I hope your wishful thinking is on the mark, might I add. But let's call it what it is.

If three football analysts pick the Colts to defeat the Texans by different margins of victory, do you say "Well, it must be a toss-up because these guys can get their predicted scores to line up?" I doubt that you do.

Anyone remember what they predicted in 1998? I can't recall the pre election punditry but everyone seemed caught by surprise when the Dems gained seats in that 6th year cycle. Though some pollsters, like Pew, picked up the trend towards the Dems in the last weekend. We can hope this is like '98 again, when the president's party defies the odds and does better than expected.
