A court in Baghdad has begun its session to deliver the verdict in the trial of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein for crimes against humanity.
Saddam Hussein and seven co-defendants were charged with killing 148 villagers in the mostly Shia town of Dujail.
If found guilty, Saddam could be sentenced to death.
A total curfew was imposed on Baghdad and two other provinces ahead of the verdict, amid fears of a violent reaction from Saddam's supporters.

Death penalty for Saddam Hussein
Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been convicted of crimes against humanity by a Baghdad court and sentenced to death by hanging.
He was found guilty over his role in the killing of 148 people in the mainly Shia town of Dujail in 1982.
His co-defendant former judge Awad Hamed al-Bander was also sentenced to death. Former vice-president Taha Yassin Ramadan got life in jail.
Three others received 15 year prison terms, another official was acquitted.
Now would be an ideal time to invalidate Ramsey Clark's US entry visa.

Because Ramsey Clark thinks he's better than anyone else and the judge showed him how wrong he was.
Ditto that.

By JPOST.COM STAFF AND AP
Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging on Sunday for crimes against humanity.
Hussein's deputy and former vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan was sentenced to life in prison, while a former Baath Party official, Mohammed Azawi Ali, was acquitted and immediately freed for lack of evidence.
Three other party officials, including a father and son, were sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for torture and premeditated murder.
It is being reported that the verdict was heard on four Iraqi TV stations and the populace is aware of the outcome.
I didn't know that Saddam thinks of himself as a KLingon.
Nice idea ,but he just go to the Mexican border and cross illegally
The democratic leadership must be having cows right about now.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Sectarian tensions have been running high in Iraq in the run-up to today's hearing, with a major security clampdown in force.
A 12-hour curfew imposed in Baghdad and three other provinces - including Salahuddin, which contains Saddam's home town of Tikrit."
Yep, I'm listening to it.
Saddam is pissed.
After the verdict was read Saddam said "damn you and your court". He was holding a Clinton sized Koran.
