BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister on Saturday urged his countrymen to accept the impending verdict against Saddam Hussein without violence, then in the next breath declared the former dictator must get "what he deserves" with the decision that could send him to the gallows.

If Kerry were one of the judges he would have appealed the appeal before he appealed against the appeal.

Good question- many prominent Democrats will want to make plane reservations so that they don't miss his funeral;)

Americans go to his execution,
Democrats to the funeral.

Anybody know the length of time between the verdict being announced and the date it's carried out? (It would be cool if it's announced at 3 A.M. ET and by 3:30 A.M. ET they've got him swinging from the gallows!)

Anything less than a death sentence will be seen as Bush's fault by the left. A life sentence would not surprise me, although he has 10-12 more trials ahead of him.

Iraqi law says 30 days, but I think the Americans have introduced an appeal process.

I doubt he will get anything else than a Death sentence. The Shiites won't accept anything else. In the worst case the execution will be delayed and after collecting the sentences from several other cases he will executed in a "combined" sentence.

(Unfortunately, in this instance) an automatic appeal is mandated on the occasion of a death sentence. Never mind the on-going trials. My personal over-under call is 3 years from the initial verdict.

3 years? I doubt so. 3 months maybe. The sentence will be carried out during a) Bushs term , b) Malikis term.

The appeals process has been part of Iraqi law even under Hussein; he just chose to ignore it.
