NYT PLANS EXCLUSIVE STORY ON IRAQ AND RESEARCH OF NUKE BOMB... NEWSROOM SOURCE TELLS DRUDGE: 'IT WILL LEAD THE PAPER ON FRIDAY... IT SHOULD IGNITE NEWS CYCLES'... DEVELOPING...
I ask again. The NYT has the nerve to question others about releasing sensitive information?
This is almost a political gift to come right back to the wiretap disclosure!
No- just the opposite. The media has tried to get people to believe that the thousands of drums of precursor chemicals found throughout Iraq and in its military bases was just roach spray.
bttt
Here's hoping the fence sitters have some smarts, but that seems a little optimistic at this point.
And the Dem partisans will crow, despite all our mocking at the contradiction.
There's such little time left now, they make a big splash, and hope for no clear analysis.
Check out this dig:
"Some intelligence officials feared that individual documents, translated and interpreted by amateurs, would be used out of context to second-guess the intelligence agencies view that Mr. Hussein did not have unconventional weapons or substantive ties to Al Qaeda. Reviewing the documents for release would add an unnecessary burden on busy intelligence analysts, they argued."
Just getting home. Did the NYTs print a story saying that Saddam was close to building a nuke in 2002?
Yea ...I keep seeing neo-cons everywhere
yep, it will take a week or so. You see they will scream "GWB is incompetent, incompetent, dumb"
and people will hear that and not wonder about what else is in those untranslated docs. I do believe that no matter what they say, everyone knows Hussein was going for the big one, and had chem and bio weapons.
Amazing story,,the times shot itself in the foot before they tried to shoot GWB
"before the 1991 Persian Gulf war"
If it was before the 1991 Persian Gulf War then the IAEA didn't do their jobs for at least 7 years and destroy the information. The docs that have been translated go up to 2003 from what I've seen.
I believe it's preemptory desperation by the liberals. They fear an Osama tape about to surface and the Saddam death sentence about to be handed down.
"The precise review process that led to the posting of the nuclear and chemical-weapons documents is unclear. But in testimony before Congress last spring, a senior official from Mr. Negropontes office, Daniel Butler, described a triage system used to sort out material that should remain classified. Even so, he said, the policy was to be biased towards release if at all possible. Government officials say all the documents in Arabic have received at least a quick review by Arabic linguists.
Some of the first posted documents dealt with Iraqs program to make germ weapons, followed by a wave of papers on chemical arms."
60 year old technology.
the issue for all the nuclear wanna-be states - is their ability to grow and enrich the material needed to make the cores. and they have to build infrastructure to do that - reactors, centrifuges, etc. the firing circuit and triggering mechanism, is the least of their concerns.
The point is that Saddam wasn't supposed to have this know how and it was up to the IAEA to assure he didn't.
"You think those two dweebs would be out so close to the election.."
One would think that, however, they have hand-picked a lot of seemingly 'conservative' Dims to try to take seats away from Pubbies. If they come out and and open their mouths, let alone try to verablize the little platform they have, they'll lose all those seats. Looks like their stragery is to let Rock Star Obama and a couple of others campaign - they made a bad choice when they picked jon carry for that. All the so-called 'leaders' in the Dim party have been noticeably absent - Turbin Durban, Leaky Leahy, Plugs Biden, Botox Babs, Stretch Pelosi, Dingy Harry, etc.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

and the IAEA failed big time....
