Thursday, November 2, 2006 Kerry's Remark: Right either way Republicans evidenced their election desperation by braying about an offhand comment that Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., made at a California college rally. "Education" Kerry said "-- if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." Was Kerry making fun of the president, or warning students against the pitfalls awaiting the undereducated in general? It doesn't matter. Kerry was right either way. Kerry wasn't saying -- regardless of the Republican spin -- that our troops are stupid. Kerry's intended point was obvious. President Bush didn't do his homework before he ordered the invasion. He didn't study the intricacies of Mideast religion, culture, politics and tribalism. He wasn't smart about it and we are stuck in Iraq. Although there are plenty of well-educated people in our armed forces -- Kerry was one of them -- military service has long been an opportunity employer for those with less education and fewer skills than they need to work in the private sector. Indeed, the military sells itself as a place to garner skills and to help pay for higher education. And wars, including this one, are often fought by those less privileged -- albeit no less smart -- than the sons and daughters of those who lead us into them. Apologies? Sure, from the cut-and-run Democratic candidates who've cancelled appearances with Kerry. |
"Education-- if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you end up defending insulting elitist snobs!
"Indeed, the military sells itself as a place to garner skills and to help pay for higher education."
The above is true, but it is the opposite of what Kerry said. Kerry stated that you will end up in the military if you flunk out. The truth is that starting in the military is what helps you succeed.
"Education" Kerry said "-- if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck writing editorials for the Seattle P-I for the rest of your life!"

PARSING JOHN KERRY, OUR TROOPS: A MESSAGE FOR THE WOBBLY VOTER
There has never been an American army as violent and murderous as the one in Iraq; ~ Sy Hersh
There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. And then there is the dinosaur media, which goes beyond all of that.
WHAT ABOUT THE VETERANS JOHN??
This is an apology?????????
johnkerry.com offers this halfheartedly apology to our dimwitted troops in Iraq and their underprivileged families.
As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop. I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended. It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I dont want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops.
John, you apologized to 140 thousand troops and their families. What about the thousand upon thousands of Veterans who have served in uniform since you disgracefully entered the political scene some thirty years ago and began your harangue against the dimwitted, uneducated military members. You, Sir, are a disgrace to the uniform you wore during your three month tour in Vietnam while lost in Cambodia. I, for one, will never forget your disgraceful testimony before Congress while in uniform while our Country was at war. You managed to bamboozle the good citizens of Massachusetts but you havent bamboozled this veteran from the Vietnam era, Senator Kerry. My Apologies to anyone that misinterprets what I said
I *LOVE* that the liberals are lining up to get behind the most henious possible interpretation of this message.
I sent them an email thanking them for extending this one more day and ask they do another one Sunday.
The MSM shows their contempt for working stiffs and those red-state rubes too dense to appreciate their superior intellect and wisdom.
Which, when you think about it, might explain a lot about Big John.
I am pleased to say that I convinced my largely apolitical family to discontinue their PI subscription close to 20 years ago. This rag has been rapidly losing circulation for a very long time. They have resorted to throwing unsolicited copies of their catbox liner into my yard occasionally, and I keep phoning them to stop it because I view their actions as littering. No success yet but I'll keep trying.
He did say, by the rules of logic, that those ""stuck" in Iraq are there because they did not "make the most of it and ... study hard and ... do ... homework, and ... make an effort to be smart." If he didn't say our troops are stupid then he said that they are lazy, at least in the area of learning.
In any case it was an insult from an arrogant pretender.
Didn't "troop" used to mean a group, like "platoon" or "battalion" (only smaller I think)? When did it start to mean "soldier"? Or could Kerry have -- hard as it is to believe! -- erred?
