Thursday, November 2, 2006 Kerry's Remark: Right either way Republicans evidenced their election desperation by braying about an offhand comment that Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., made at a California college rally. "Education" Kerry said "-- if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." Was Kerry making fun of the president, or warning students against the pitfalls awaiting the undereducated in general? It doesn't matter. Kerry was right either way. Kerry wasn't saying -- regardless of the Republican spin -- that our troops are stupid. Kerry's intended point was obvious. President Bush didn't do his homework before he ordered the invasion. He didn't study the intricacies of Mideast religion, culture, politics and tribalism. He wasn't smart about it and we are stuck in Iraq. Although there are plenty of well-educated people in our armed forces -- Kerry was one of them -- military service has long been an opportunity employer for those with less education and fewer skills than they need to work in the private sector. Indeed, the military sells itself as a place to garner skills and to help pay for higher education. And wars, including this one, are often fought by those less privileged -- albeit no less smart -- than the sons and daughters of those who lead us into them. Apologies? Sure, from the cut-and-run Democratic candidates who've cancelled appearances with Kerry. |
Really this is a pretty prudent move on the P-I's part. By defending Ketchup Boy on both sides of the issue, the P-I won't have to retract their statement when the inevitable flip-flop occurs.
From my post # 17: "We're now up to four parodies, and counting."
Make that six parodies. Two more posted while I was composing # 17.
"If you work hard and study hard, you'll do well. If you don't, well, you'll get stuck in a CHORUS LINE............"
"If you work hard and study hard, you'll do well. If you don't, well, you'll get stuck in a POLICE LINEUP............"
"If you work hard and study hard, you'll do well. If you don't, well, you'll get stuck in a Flea Market selling Beanie Babies............"
"If you work hard and study hard, you'll do well. If you don't, well, you'll get stuck on a roof in New Orleans............"
When I move to Washington, I am going to do my best to cause these people some grief.
Just keep the story in the papers, that's all! :-)
I notice no one took personal responsibility for this piece of crap!

Although finding spelling, syntax or punctuation errors is usually pretty easy in drive-by media papers, am I wrong in my recollection that, according to English punctuation rules, whenever the President of the United States is referred to by using the word 'President', isn't it regarded as proper form to always capitalize 'President'?
If I'm correct in my recollection of this, then the P.I. editorial board apparently didn't follow Kerry's advice in becoming educated:
"Was Kerry making fun of the president, or warning students against the pitfalls awaiting the undereducated in general?"
If you work hard and study hard, you'll do well. If you don't, well, you can marry a desperate, homely, wealthy widow, for her $$$, throw some vets to the wolves with your lies and get elected to congress, then spend the rest of your days pretending you're relevant.
Houston, TX NASA Administrators will neither confirm nor deny ongoing negotiations with the Democratic National Committee exploring possible repair solutions to John Kerry's severely damaged joke, which was apparently disastrously disfigured upon entry into Earth's atmosphere yesterday. Top NASA engineers, however, have been seen at Houston's airport enroute to Washington with luggage containing duct tape, bailing wire and over 10 pounds of Bazooka-brand bubble gum. Scribblings on a napkin left at the airport and found by this reporter provide a clue as to the direction of thinking...
Joke Repair Proposal #26
If you do all your homework and try hard to be smart about your education, you can do well. If not, you get stuck in Iowa.
The PI Opinions page and The Seattle Times Northwest Voices will be nothing but more of this crap...most Sundays, there's at most 2-3 conservative letters to every 12-15 liberal letters.
Many times there are NO conservative letters on certain topics...I suspect this will be one of those topics.
Nazism, communism and journalism are the three primary fields of endeavor that incite large numbers of people who want to rise up and kill you.
