TERRORISM: 5 YEARS AFTER 9/11, JEMAAH ISLAMIYAH STILL A SERIOUS THREAT

Five years after the 9/11 attacks in the US and the start of the global war on terror, the Southeast Asian terrorist group, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), which aims to create an Islamic caliphate in the region, has been weakened but remains a serious threat. "The group is much more fragmented," Sidney Jones, Southeast Asia director for the International Crisis Group told Adnkronos International (AKI). "But it is important to remember that part of JI is still intact and it is trying to regroup," said Jones. "The group is very adaptable and it still is a very serious threat," she added.

"Regions beef up security after E. Jakarta bombing"
Prodita Sabarini, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "While the police were still investigating the motives behind the Saturday bombing in East Jakarta, and whether the suspect belonged to any radical groups, other regions beefed up security.
The steel-industry town of Cilegon in Banten, for example, dispatched more police personnel to guard shopping malls and housing complexes.
Bomb-torn Bali warned its residents, especially hotel managers, restaurant owners, and people who run entertainment venues and boarding houses, to be more vigilant."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Police say the suspect was injured when he set off a low-explosive blast in an American fast food restaurant in Plaza Kramat Jati Indah shopping mall. No one else was injured in the explosion.
The suspect, known by his neighbors in East Jakarta's Bidara Cina subdistrict as a quiet electronics repairman, regained consciousness late on Saturday.
The homemade low-grade explosive, consisting of a pipe filled with gunpowder and buckshot pellets, went off at the A&W restaurant on the mall's ground floor. The attack came about one week before U.S. President George W. Bush's planned visit to Bogor, south of Jakarta."

Hypocrisy from (gasp) Ibrahim Hooper!
In "Ibrahim the Hypocrite," Joe Kaufman of Americans Against Hate catches out CAIR's Ibrahim "Honest Abe" Hooper:
In an article in the Associated Baptist Press, entitled 'Muslim group decries Baptist leader's claims about Islamic 'takeover' of U.S.,' the following is written:
"Leaders from a prominent American Muslim group have denounced reported comments by the Missouri Baptist Convention's executive director claiming that 'Islam has a strategic plan' to take over the United States. Ibrahim Hooper, communications director for the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Nov. 1 that David Clippard's assertions 'are too bizarre to even comment on.'"
I would like to remind Ib about a famous statement he made in the past: "I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future."

Abbas has had a record of being a terrorist as far back as when Condi wore diapers. But don't let reality stop the pipe dream, fund terrorists for peace!
"...fund terrorists for peace!"
My Opinion: I would not fund terrorists and I would not negotiate with them, either.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A Hawaii man of Indian descent was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges he sold missile-related national defense secrets to the Peoples Republic of China.
A federal grand jury in Honolulu returned an 18-count indictment against Noshir S. Gowadia, age 62, of Maui, charging him with performing defense related services for the Peoples Republic of China by agreeing to design and then later designing a low observable cruise missile exhaust system nozzle capable of evading detection and interception by the US missile defense systems currently in place."

"Impeached Judge May Chair House Intelligence Committee"
November 11, 2006
Vox Populi
By Jim Kouri, CPP
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The scuttlebutt circulating in Washington, DC is that Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings may become the next chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee. The Congressional Black Caucus has been pressuring the new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to appoint blacks to key leadership positions and Hastings may benefit from the pressure on the radical left Pelosi.Besides Pelosi isnt too happy with the ranking committee member, Rep. Jane Harman. Harmans cooperation with the House Republicans to secure the US angered Pelosi with her San Francisco counterculture mentality.
But anyone who knows Rep. Hastings history should be afraid very afraid of having him so close to national security secrets."

Warden Message: Indonesia Security Threat Continues
U.S. Embassy Jakarta issued the following warden message on November 13:
The U.S. Embassy informs American citizens that several groups in Indonesia have held or have announced plans to hold demonstrations protesting the upcoming visit of President Bush to Indonesia later in November. Most demonstrations to date have been small and peaceful. While legitimate groups intend their demonstrations to be peaceful, any demonstration can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.
Most groups publicize demonstrations in advance. The Embassy urges Americans to avoid the areas announced as demonstration sites, and to exercise caution if caught close to a demonstration. The Embassy urges Americans to avoid crowds, maintain a low profile, and be vigilant about security at all times.
The U.S. Embassy and U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya intend to maintain normal consular services during demonstrations, but may have to close on short notice if security conditions prevent public access to the Embassy or Consulate grounds. American citizens seeking consular services may call the Consular Sections at the numbers below before coming to the Embassy or Consulate to inquire about possible demonstrations.
Americans living and traveling in Indonesia are urged to register and update their contact information with the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, or U.S. Consular Agency in Bali. Registration facilitates the U.S. Mission's contact with Americans in emergency situations, and may be done on line and in advance of travel. Information on registering can be found at the U.S. Department of State's Consular Affairs website at http://travelregistration.state.gov and at the Embassy's website at http://jakarta.usembassy.gov. All Travel Warnings, Public Announcements and recent warden messages are posted on the Embassy website.
The Embassy is located at Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan No. 4-5, Jakarta; the 24-hour telephone number is 62-21-3435-9000. The telephone number of the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya is 62-31-295-6400; the number for the U.S. Consulate in Medan is 62-61-415-2200; the number for the U.S. Consular Agency in Bali is 62-21-361-233-605.

This information is current as of today, Mon Nov 13 2006 13:59:48 GMT-0800.
SYRIA
November 13, 2006
This Travel Warning is being issued to alert U.S. citizens to the fact that non-emergency employees and family members have been authorized to return to the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, but the Department continues to urge U.S. citizens to defer all non-essential travel to Syria. This Travel Warning also alerts U.S. citizens to the ongoing safety and security concerns in Syria. It supersedes the Travel Warning issued on September 14, 2006.
On September 12, the U.S. Embassy in Damascus was attacked by assailants using improvised explosives, gunfire, and two vehicles laden with explosives. However, the Embassy perimeter was not breached. This attack underscores the presence of terrorist groups in Syria that have the ability and intent to target American interests. The Embassy is working with the Syrian authorities to address these threats and the security issues raised by the attack on the Embassy.
U.S. citizens who remain in or travel to Syria despite this Travel Warning are encouraged to register at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, and to obtain updated information on travel and security in Syria. Americans in Syria should exercise caution and take prudent measures to maintain their security. These measures include being aware of their surroundings, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, keeping a low profile, varying times and routes for all required travel, and ensuring travel documents are current.
U.S. consular personnel remain available to provide emergency information and services to American citizens. The U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria, is located at 2, Al-Mansour St., Abu Roumaneh. The Embassy telephone number is (963) (11) 333-1342, fax (963) (11) 331-9678, e-mail:
acsdamascus@state.gov. American citizens may register with the Embassy online by visiting
https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs. Additional information may be found on the Embassy website at
http://usembassy.state.gov/damascus.
Updated information on travel and security in Syria may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States or, from overseas, 1-202-501-4444. Additional details can be found in the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet for Syria, the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, and the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement which are available on the Department's Internet website at http://travel.state.gov.
