Czech spy agency says it investigated whether 3 Egyptians plotted attack against airliner
PRAGUE, Czech Republic:
The Czech counterintelligence service investigated whether three Egyptian citizens were planning a terrorist attack against a civilian airliner last year, the agency said Tuesday.
According to the BIS' annual report published on the spy agency's Web site, the three attempted to enter the cockpit during a flight by the Czech state-run airline CSA from the Norwegian capital, Oslo, to Prague in 2005.
A suspicion that the three were testing security measures on Czech planes could not be confirmed or ruled out, the report said.
After landing in Prague, the three were detained and escorted to Egypt, it said. No more details were given.
CSA spokeswoman Daniela Hupakova was not immediately able to comment on the report. She said the airline uses air marshals on some of its flights. 061024 125640

"Man Made Threatening Phone Calls to California Airports"
The Associated Press
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A 30-year-old man has admitted he made bomb threats to airports in Long Beach and Orange County last year, triggering massive searches of both facilities.
In a plea agreement filed Thursday in federal court, Jason Morris of Ontario acknowledged he called John Wayne Airport in Orange County on Oct. 25, 2005. He told an airport employee two bombs were on a departing plane, adding "a lot of people will die and it's all in your hands," the government said.
Morris also called Long Beach Airport the same day, claiming a bomb was at the facility and that "a lot of people will die."
No explosives were found, but the search shut the Long Beach Airport for four hours and delayed several morning flights.
Investigators traced the threats to Morris because he used his cell phone to make the calls."

Everyone, please keep your eyes open tomorrow. I still think about the fact that on 9/11, one thing stuck out about that day before the bad stuff started happening - the polls were open in New York. It was a primary.
Also, Iraq has seen spikes in violence on their elections days. I just get red flags about it, and even though I'm not in a metropolitan area, I'm going to be a little jumpier than usual tomorrow.

Idaho state senator's sons arrested, cited in flag damage incident
KIFI Channel 8 ^ | 5 Nov 2006 | unattributed

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The adult sons of an Idaho state senator are in hot water with authorities in Idaho's capital city after two American flags dedicated to soldiers killed in Iraq were vandalized.
Twenty-four-year-old Michael Burkett was arrested and 22-year-old Thomas Burkett was cited for allegedly damaging flags and flagpoles on the grounds of the Idaho Capitol building this morning.
Police say Michael Burkett also resisted and obstructed officers.
Boise Police say one flag pole had been bent so the flag was lying on the ground, the other had been pulled from the ground.
Their father is Boise Senator Mike Burkett, a Democrat facing Republican Charles Seldon in Tuesday's election.
Senator Burkett says he thinks his sons are innocent, while the boys' mother, Sharon Burkett, says the entire event was a "misunderstanding."
Thank you SlowBoat407.
It's always good advice to be vigilant.
Our family always votes and we'll be voting tomorrow, too.
Valid point and one worth keeping in mind. We should be cautious EVERY day, but certain factors make some days worth extra caution (just about any nuance can set off jihadis).

Family values????????? We've come to expect it from them. A "misunderstanding"? Police say Michael Burkett also resisted and obstructed officers. Supposing the police also "misunderstood" the resistance and obstruction? Tsk tsk - timing is everything. May the Idaho State Senator coming to an "understanding" with his sons about respect for American flags!
"Family values?????????"
FACT: Not my family values.
The shop owner should have the right to protect himself, Firearm Owners ID card or not. The idea that without possession of that ID card the outcome could have been different for the store owner is preposterous.
Canada kept list of dissidents to lock up in time of crisis
Snip: The federal government had detailed lists of political activists and subversives it planned to arrest in the aftermath of a nuclear war or other national emergency, keeping such plans on the books until at least the early 1980s, according to records obtained by an Ottawa historian.
Anywhere from 700 to 2,500 people, including babies, would have been held in internment camps, including one in Gatineau Park, before being shipped off to more permanent detention facilities.
Woman blows herself up - slightly injuring Israeli soldier
Snip: According to the army, the woman was acting suspiciously, and the troops ordered her to stop before she got too close. That's when she blew herself up. The militant group Islamic Jihad is claiming responsibility for the attack that killed the woman and reportedly injured several civilians.
Taliban issues renewed threat against Canadians
Snip: "We will pursue our fighting in winter," Qari Mohammad Yousuf Ahmadi said in a telephone interview Monday, shooting down suggestions of a lull in fighting over the winter, when insurgents traditionally hunker down in mountain hideaways. "We will change our tactics according to the situation."
Snip: Seventy percent of the Palestinians claim that they want peace. They want to live in peace side-by-side with Israel. But they vote in terrorist group Hamas to govern them. And theyre raising an army of children to carry on the jihad through at least another generation.
Pakistan's MMA warns of jihad against USA
Snip: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal warned it would wage a jihad against the United States and the West if their killings of innocent Muslims across the globe did not stop even as thousands rallied against the Bajur killings here on Friday.
Not mine either. Questioning where these grown children learned such disrespect for our flag and disrepsect for the citizens who honor it.
I spent part of the day researching candidates for elections tomorrow. I was stunned to see some with the comments "none" and "spiritual" in response to a question about their religion. My sharpie pen marked a big X across the information for those candidates - and I guarantee it was not the kind of X they'd hope for.
