George Clooney? Sorry, never heard of him
The Daily Telegraph ^ | October 30, 2006 | Nick Pisa

Posted on 10/29/2006 11:32:37 PM PST by MadIvan

The Hollywood star George Clooney, who has been cheering up pensioners with secret visits to OAP's homes, was turned away on one visit after staff failed to recognise him.

The Ocean's Eleven star has spent hours chatting to pensioners and giving them DVDs and videos of classic films and his own blockbusters.

The former ER star has been turning up on his Harley Davidson for the visits to the Sacred Heart rest home at Dizzasco near Como in northern Italy, a few miles from his villa at Laglio on Lake Como where he spends much of the year.

Clooney's request that staff keep his visits secret backfired when he was shown the door by a member of staff who had not heard of him and was put off by his motorcycling gear.

Despite attempts to convince the door man, Clooney had to leave and take his gifts with him.

Clooney's publicist Stan Rosenfield said: "George does this sort of thing but it's not for public recognition. I wouldn't want to say anything else. It's a private matter."

I've never seen him in anything except for maybe one or two 1 minute news bites and that was 4 years ago.

'Ocean's Eleven' is terrific, and even better is 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'
Clooney is a terrific actor, and very likeable when he shuts up and acts.

I've never seen him in anything. Of course I don't watch TV or go to the movies.

Agreed.

And, politics aside, it's nice of him to visit the old folks. More people should make the effort.

George hops on his motorcycle and tries to figure out where to go. I got it! I'll go annoy some old Italian people who never heard of me.

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!

Yeah. When his last name annexed his middle initial, it caused some confusion. See if this looks more familiar:

George C. Looney

I find his political activity to be seriously annoying, but he's recovered some of my respect if he's been doing this kind of visitation of the elderly for a while now.

Considering what life must be like in a old folks home, I think what he was doing was pretty admirable.

A bunch of the "thinking celebrities" do the charity bit. I worked in a soup kitchen one year and a big celeb came in, peeled tatters for five hours and then signed autographs for the homeless. Never a word about it in the paper. It happens, but not often enough.

Well, I don't like the guy at all, but this is pretty darn nice of him. It must really give these folks a thrill, as Clooney's types of TV shows compose the majority of their exposure to the outside world and entertainment.

They probably ask him if he really knows Brad Pritt and what's going on with him and that woman with the giant lips.

Awww, I think that is sweet for him to do that. Maybe I could make George my own personal project to straigten him out. wink wink!
