I am not going to watch Letterman or even bother to TIVO it. Bill will show excerpts on Monday's Factor. Letterman is a pig.

My daughter likes him and has actually attended his show. I have called her to tell her to watch.

My two brothers in law, both in their 80s, WW II vets, went to see Letterman earlier in the year. They stuck the two old guys way up in the back where they could see nothing.
They were so upset over their treatment.

That is so sad and so disgusting, but so damn typical of Letterman and his ilk.

In a desire to avoid unfairly maligning a person, I'm interested in your informed opinion as to whether or not
my post on Oprah is fair and accurate. After all, I'm guessing you watch far more Oprah broadcasts than I do and are more informed on the subject.
Thanks,
Aaron

They told the show's people that they were vets. As a matter of fact it was Fleet Week in NYC.
Nicest part tho, they were asked for directions from a couple of young out of town sailors. The bros took them to a little pub, bought them some dinner and showed them around the area.
Nice experience for the old vets and the young sailors too. Memorable time in NYC

They consider us illogical too and that's even more frightening. They have lost all common sense.

The grammar around here is sometimes sub-par.
My pet peeve is that most people do not know the difference between "quote" and "quotation." Differentiating between a noun and a verb is pretty basic.

Wow. What to say? Oprah and failure? Together in the same sentence? Oprah IS the American success story. A billioniare by her own making. Her own making. A multi-media mogul. That is something incredible for a poor black girl from Mississippi. And IMO that is why the audience 'connects' with her still after all these years.
As for her personal life...its just that personal. And I have never heard Oprah speak of an abortion...she had been abused by a male relative; got pregnant and delivered a stillborn son at 14. And went back to school; college; and a career. I see no failure only tenacity and the success that it brings.

"Wow!!! Pretty harsh reply. And smart too. I guess I am not smart enough to decode your mystery message. Let me see if you can figure out this message. You are a jack ass. Did you get that one?"
Thank goodness you can defend yourself without resorting immediately to base insult. Thank goodness FR encourages logical, reasonable discourse of the sort you exhibit!

Well, my first reply was my attempt at cordial dialogue.
This was my second. So it wasn't immediate.

I just saw this show and I have to say it was pretty damn good. The people in the audience were articulate, and even the ones I disagreed with were respectful. And the ones on our side were, well, great. Almost like they were all plants...nahhh....Oprah looked great, didn't she??? :)

I agree. I have watched Oprah for years. I DVR it every day and there are few shows that I don't enjoy or get some beneficial information from. (However,I did delete the McGreevy and Obama episodes without watching them because I probably would not have been able to get through them without wanting to throw up.) Lately, she has featured celebrities a little more than I would like, but long ago she made a deliberate choice not to go the "Jerry Springer" route and she has largely stuck by that decision.
IMO, Freepers who do not watch the show are making a mistake in casting judgment on it. It's like those in the DBM who comment on Rush's show who have not even listened to 5 minutes of it. Although yesterday's show was one of the best Oprahs I have ever seen, it was really pretty typical. When she has a guest like this interacting with the audience, she usually sits back and lets the conversation flow. The audience was also pretty typical. The tickets are first come first serve and she does not usually make an attempt to "stack" the audience, unless it is important for the theme of the show (for instance, having all of the audience members preview a movie that is being featured on the show).
I did not really enjoy any of the network shows that featured Katrina because of their tendency to blame the Bush administration for deficiencies that were due either to state and local government failure or to years of neglect by the levee board or the Army Corps of Engineers. Unlike some broadcasters, Oprah put her money where her mouth was by using her Angel network to construct houses for the Katrina victims who were relocated to Houston. She also has been instrumental in the capture of several most wanted child predators who are now behind bars rather than endangering every child with whom they come in contact.
I say all of this as a Conservative Christian woman who has never voted for any one other than a Republican for POTUS, US Senate, or USHOR. One of my liberal friends described me last night as "to the right of Attila the Hun". I am not unintelligent, either, as I have a Masters in Biology and a degree in Medical Technology and I have been teaching for over 23 years at our local community college - not exactly a "mind-numbed robot", as Rush would say.

This was one of the more interesting things IVe seen on TV for some time.
BOR did VERY well, and I respect Oprah for having him on and letting him speak. Fascinating to watch.
2 Black conservative men spoke up and did very well.
One teary eye white lib woman went on and on about we kill babies in Iraq, BOR reminded her that Saddam killed 400 thousand on purpose.
In the end this definately helped our side, no doubt about it.
That was a very good show imo, BOR pretty much spanked the libs and Oprah didnt interfere too much.
My opinion of both are higher than before.
I hope she brings the 2 sides together like this more often.
As long as we have someone like BOR on our side we win on the merit of truth.
