BAGHDAD, Oct. 25, 2006 Special Iraqi army forces, aided by coalition advisors, captured a death squad leader and three people believed to have been involved in the kidnapping of a U.S. soldier in separate raids in the Iraqi capitals Sadr City neighborhood, military officials reported.
Officials said Iraqi and coalition forces had credible intelligence on the location of an insurgent leader personally involved in and directing widespread death squad activity for numerous murder cells in eastern Baghdad. The ground assault force also planned to act on credible intelligence indicating that criminals involved in the kidnapping of a U.S. soldier were located in a Sadr City mosque.
Iraqi forces quickly secured the insurgents home in Sadr City and detained 10 suspected death squad members. The assault force suppressed enemy small-arms fire, and a supporting coalition aircraft neutralized enemy rocket-propelled grenade fire. Ten enemy fighters were killed and two were wounded, officials said.
The ground assault force left the site of the first raid and moved through Sadr City to the mosque where the kidnapping suspects were believed to be located. Iraqi forces secured the mosque, entered it, and detained three suspects for further questioning.
No Iraqi or coalition forces were reported injured. Hostile conditions prevented an assessment of civilian casualties, officials said.

Question?
In many cities here they have a computerized system that can pinpoint gunfire almost immediately. Sensors placed on say lightposts and when a gunshot occurs a computer determines where. Do you guys have any such equipment there?
I fuess what I'm asking is how do you determine where fire is coming from and do you respond quickly to it? Quickly enough to find the bad guys oftentimes?
"Surely not!, get him a lawyer, and a nice warm bed in the meantime.."
Are they serving lemon chicken this week?
I know that the enemy long ago figured out that they could get about three mortar rounds off in one setting before the military vectors in on them. So they are usually gone by then. Our guys do locate them on occasion and either waste them or round them up.
The way I respond to incoming fire is to either duck into the nearest bunker, dive unerneath whatever hard surface there may be nearby or hit the ground. ;-)
I was not close enough in the vicinity of the ones that came in yesterday or today to have to enact my own missile defense "duck and cover" plan. LOL
As a civilian contractor are you making enough to make it worth the adventure?
May I ask what it is you do? Do you have family and what do they think of you being there?
How did you get the job?
How do the Iraquis treat you?
Are things getting better?
How are the Iraqui police and military forces coming along?
If any thing I ask puts you in a bad position then please don't answer, just curious.
If he was kidnapped by these people, he's already dead, but I hope to God we get those who kidnapped him. Once we prove that he was kidnapped by them (especially if it was in that mosque) then that mosque should be destroyed.
I wish I could be happy about this but we will probably turn 'em loose as soon as Mooki throws a wing-ding fit.
Prayers up for all our troops, and for you, the Iraqi citizens, and all who want this war to end and peace to reign.
Let Him GooooO!
Yes, the aim of our soldiers vs theirs is no contest. But, please keep yourself safe. It only takes one lucky hit. Prayers up.
Oh No!!! Not the rack!!! What could be worse??? You mean you're going to put panties on my head and take pictures? Oh, please give me the rack!
ping
Thanks, COUNT. Looks like some good work was done by the good guys, but I don't like them lobbing things at our Allegra.
Thanks for the ping....
I am just about sick of playing around with these guys, lets get Allegra home...and start playing hardball.
My brother visits from time to time. He's with Triple Canopy.
Do you run with those guys at all?
Thanks for the ping CM.
Thanks for the ping, Count!
We went through the same thing when I was at Taji in '04. They kept going after the chow hall at lunchtime - trying to take out a lot of people. They eventually caught the scumbuckets who were passing information to the outside.
There are terrorists inside the IZ - everyone knows it. We watch for things like people pacing areas off and things like that. The good guys will get them eventually. Most terrorists aren't real bright.
We're OK! And the chow hall is still standing.
I've heard of them...I don't really know anybody who works withe them. Does he visit the IZ?
Absolutely. It's not all about the money. I wanted to be a small part of this. Plus, I have a 50-yardline seat for watching history in the making. I don't have to be here. I choose to be here.
May I ask what it is you do?
Issue and manage subcontracts for Iraqi contracting companies to build camps, police stations, etc.
Do you have family and what do they think of you being there?
A few of my family members lurk on here frequently. Maybe they could finally sign up and come on here and answer that. LOL (They are supportive for the most part.)
How did you get the job?
I was contacted in late 2003 and asked if I wanted to do this. My response to that is now evident. ;-)
How do the Iraquis treat you?
I've made a lot of wonderful Iraqi friends. I find them warm, generous, cheerful people with senses of humor that translate well with our own.
Are things getting better?
Absolutely. There are still a lot of problems, but I've seen progress advancing steadily in the nearly three years I have been here.
How are the Iraqui police and military forces coming along?
Very well. Especially the military. They want to take over the responsbility for their nation's security.
