FREEP THIS POLL: Did Limbaugh Go Too Far in Criticizing Fox?
MSNBC ^ | 10/25/2006 | MSNBC

Do you think Rush Limbaugh went too far in accusing Michael J. Fox of exaggerating the effects of Parkinson's disease? * 115743

VOTE HERE!!!

Yes. 84%

No. 14%

I don't know. 1.6%

I had to look into this one because the way the media reported it, it sounded like Rush did go too far. But then you find out that this is a tactic of Michael J. Fox that he has previously admitted using to enhance sympathy for his cause. Well, then that makes Rush's comment 100% accurate.

And besides, if not taking meds makes a parkinson's patient "freeze up", then why did Fox admit to doing such when he testified to Congress?

It depends on how advanced the Parkinson's disease is. People in the early stages of Parkinson's disease will be more shaky than frozen. But the larger, slower movements ("chorea") Mr. Fox displayed are a side effect of his medication, not a sign of under-medication.

What do you aspire for the cure of Parkinson's? What do we do and how do we do it?

Through adult stem cell research. See for example, this report on bone marrow transplantation. Also, we need a better understanding of what is causing the loss dopamine-producing cells. There is good hope for a cure that does not require the destruction of other human beings.

Don't worry about it. This is yet another fixed b.s. dbm poll. Seriously, Rush can take care of himself. I just hope he barges onto some of the lib's shows in the next few days and finishes educating the sheeple as to what's really going on.

Now that would really be a news story!

But was it malicious? Or misleading? Thats the true question here. I don't think so actually. People need to see whats behind the medication. To see the true face of Parkinson's. Its not pretty nor is it easy to live with. With or without medication. It wasn't a cowardly act to appear before any public forum without it. It took great courage. We are a visual society that doesn't tend to look any deeper then the obvious. To strip the layers off and appear before others in your true form is not and never will be a lie.....It is in fact the truth. The truth of the disease is much more grave then any political ad. Its a shame it became about that and I hope to God that the people who made such cold comments about it will NEVER be in my situation....or his. What goes on behind closed doors will never be as easy as whats seen on TV. We all need to remember that. Have a good night.

I read your post and yes, I got it. The fact that any political factor was pulled into a disability isn't funny. Kerry or not. I don't care who claimed what. And yes, your tone wasn't one of understanding, nor was it one of being educated about the disease itself. It was simply put...flippant. So throw it out there. You have the right to do so. But I don't have to get a grip anymore then you have to be quiet. The question that I still pose to you is if its so funny to make claims about the disabled what are your answers to the people who aren't able to walk? Who have PD? Whats the solution? John Kerry jokes? (I dont give a crap about the man myself.) Pointing the finger at the other political party? Those are opinions...not a solution. So you know the saying, you are either a part of the solution or you are part of the problem. What side do you fall on? And what are you going to do about it as a Republican?

Ok, since you obviously don't get it.....I was NOT making fun of anyone with a disability. PERIOD. I was NOT laughing at anyone with a disability. PERIOD. I was not using the "disability" to make a point. In fact, my entire post was not even about disability AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was making fun of, and a joke about, JOHN KERRY and what he claimed he could do. Duh!!!

And if I want to make a comment simply to make a joke, that's my right. Deal with it and leave me alone.

Yes, I will leave you alone. And yes I got it. PERIOD. But the question I asked you has still gone unanswered. The fact that you would post some of the comments you made about someone with a disability in the way that you posted it shows that yes, you are very capable of being uninformed about people with disabilities. Do what you want with it. Have a wonderful holiday. And I mean that. No need to keep sparring. We can agree to disagree and call it for what it is. Two people who see two very different things about the same subject. Enough said. Have a good day my friend. No need to carry this on. I am sure that you are a great person with even kinder thoughts. Just didn't pick up on it from the posts. So what? We all have the right to be here.

He did go too far. He shouldn't have accused Fox of faking his symptoms. And he shouldn't have mimicked them on camera, no matter what his reasoning for doing so was. If Rush had just stuck to addressing Fox's argument, there might have been a chance that Fox could have been exposed. But no - Rush ended up comfounding the real arguments that could have been brought up by bringing this extraneous crap in. And what happened? Rush's mimicry and wrong quotes about Fox were widely distributed. Fox got to make himself look good by saying that Rush didn't understand his illness. But Fox never had to respond to the factual errors in his ad. Why? Because Rush managed to create a bigger, bogus issue that overshadowed the original content of the ad.

Ok, let's go back shall we? Let me spell it out for you, since you are obviously too slow to get it...

My first post:
Hannity was talking about this and said the whole criticism of Rush saying what he said about Fox is so unbelievable.

After all, Fox himself, admitted that when he appeared on the stand in front of the Senate, the Senate, he stopped taking his meds, so his condition would be at it's worst.

If he's willing to stand up for this Democrat, who voted against stem cell research himself, and he's doing so obviously because he's a Democrat, I don't think it's too far fetched at all, to think he stopped taking his meds.

And with that in mind, I don't think it's far fetched at all to think ANY democrat has stopped taking their meds. After all, look around us. They've all gone completely mad

You seem to have confused what I was saying here. See, I was not saying anything about a "disability". I was saying that Fox probably did lie and that Democrats are stupid and crazy.

Now my infamous statement, to which you totally misunderstood:
Not only that, but I highly highly doubt ANY democrat can find the "cure" for his disease....no more than I found it believable that John Kerry could make people walk again. Now THAT was freakin' funny...

Again, not ONCE am I talking about a disability. I'm making a comment about John Kerry and his lame attempts to say he can cure anything, just to get a vote. You seem to have it in your brain that i was making fun of Parkinsons, but my comments did not EVER mention any disease, let alone Parkinsons. So you're entire reply to me, does not make any sense, because it is in complete ignorance of what I actually said. Thereby, leading me to believe that you can't read.

Go back and reread post #128. Again and again and again. Because then you'll see that your stupid questions and accusations in post #129, are completely without merit. Until you get that I posted nothing in this thread, whatsoever, about a disability, positive or negative, we have nothing more to say.

That was exactly my point. Michael J Fox did not go off his meds to prove anything to YOU. Or anyone else for that matter, its what we all deal with when we have a disability. The truth is that regardless of what your political calling is...we still have to deal with it. Which you missed. Rush doesn't know what Michael J Fox deals with anymore then you do. But I do. The fact that he went off of his medication didn't mean a damn thing about you approving his disease, it meant that he was standing before a group of people with his disease and he said he had a voice. A voice without fake or over medicated consequences. You chose to make it seem like somehow if he stopped taking his meds that he was faking or over dramitaclly making a point. Thats the real face of Parkinsons Disease. You didnt catch it, why dont we go back shall we, and see it for what it is? He wasn't afflicted with this awful disease because of you or Rush. And he sure as hell didnt get out of bed because he wanted to impress you. That happened years ago. So stand back from all of the postures that you are making. If you dont want to see it for what it is then take a hike. Me and the rest of the crowd who actually deal with disability without Lucky9teen are doing great. No thanks to you. Go fuck yourself. We have actually had to deal with the comments like :

After all, Fox himself, admitted that when he appeared on the stand in front of the Senate, the Senate, he stopped taking his meds, so his condition would be at it's worst.

and: And with that in mind, I don't think it's far fetched at all to think ANY democrat has stopped taking their meds. After all, look around us. They've all gone completely mad

I knew all along what I was talking about. Thanks though. You almost made a dent in the rational thinking.

peace and pass the ammo...I have neighbors like you. Thank God I can read.......
