Deliver a Spanking
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | October 22, 2006 | Colin McNickle

Posted on 10/22/2006 8:49:20 AM PDT by Conservative Goddess

I am your typical Republican "supervoter." .... But I'm seriously considering ending that streak this Nov. 7. ...

I'm also a contrarian -- a conservative with libertarian leanings. Combine all these characteristics, then mix in the aggregate Republican record, allow the ire it has created to rise and bake it for a few years and here's what comes out of the oven:

A party base that's mad as hell and no longer willing to rationalize GOP failures. It's a base whose crust grows darker and thicker -- i.e., angrier -- when prominent conservatives and Republicans -- politicians, pundits, radio talk-show hosts and think tankers sensing impending electoral doom -- pop out of their pumpkins and upbraid the watered-on for complaining about being wet.

....

...Pay no attention to the recidivists behind the curtain who, once every two years or four or six, make grand promises of fealty to conservative and party principles only to repeatedly fail to deliver. ... What's the definition of insanity again? In this case it's constantly returning Republicans to power and having the audacity to expect different results. And what could be more stupid than that?

....

Look, folks, it's time to take a stand. Returning this current crew of Republicans to power will only embolden them to spend more time, not less, off the conservative reservation. This is no time to dance the Rationalization Rumba. It is time for the GOP base to deliver a very big SMACK. It's the only way to start the process of true Republican/conservative reclamation.

Fellow Republicans and conservatives, do what you must on Nov. 7. But I, for one, refuse to yet again enter my polling place, vote for the usual GOP suspects...

It's time for the long-spanked to do some spanking.

To which I reply:

1) Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Clinton, et. al.
I'd rather have a couple of RINO cranks with the minority then have a couple of RINO cranks with the majority!!

2) Alito, Roberts, and a slim 5-4 majority--we still have two more years! Otherwise, we'd have a permanent 7-2 MINORITY, don't forget!!

3) The tax cuts have NOT been rescinded and WONT BE unless we let the Demons take power. Then, it's a done deal and we all suffer.

You can short-sightedly cut off your nose to spite your face, but I think it's idiotic and wrong. Throw your little tantrum on your own time, get it out of your system and then get your butt to the polls and vote AGAINST the Demons if you can't bring yourself to vote FOR the RINOs.

I am foaming at the moth to vote GOP on election day.

There are many many conservatives ready to do the same.

The democrats are gonna get the surprise of their lives.

Watch the polls move strongly back toward the GOP in the last few days, only as an attempt by the pollsters to save some credibility to their name.

I'm torn on this one... On the one hand, I feel very much the same way. "A Pox on their houses!" "Screw `em" Those angry slogans go on and on... Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing to have the pubbies lose one or even both houses... We'll still have the presidency.

Then again, look at how often President Bush has vetoed legislation over the last 5+ years... Even when he admitted that he disagreed with it, which got us McCain/Feingold CFR!

And the thought of Rangle in charge of finance, and Conyers, that unrepentive communist in charge of judicial? I can't let those go...

And the senate isn't any better.

So, I'm going to hold my nose and pull the lever.

Mark

And a Bill Clinton for president for 8 years.
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

Exactly. And that was pre 9-11. The responses to my posts on this issue have been to accuse me of being a dumocrat because I won't support Schlesinger. If every registered republican in the state voted for the republican candidate but no one else did, he would lose by 24% to 76%. We need to do more base building in CT, but that's for later. It will happen. For now however, Lieberman is infinitely better that Lamont at a time we can't afford to elect another pacifist to office. Its not about party loyalty, its about patriotism and loyalty to the USA. Anyone who thinks Joe Lieberman is unamerican is wrong to think that.

It's enjoyable to actually here reasoned, honest discussions once and awhile. I am sure that there are some who would not consider me to be a true conservative because I am not a one issue voter. I try to be pragmatic when it is the best policy. I guess what upsets me and I think other like me is that when you vote for a Dem you know exactly what you are going to get. They tell you upfront that they are for big government, entitlements and over arching power. I don't agree with their views, but at least they are honest and have a track record. The Rep on the otherhand too often run as conservative and then go to DC and govern like liberal. That is frustrating because it makes you feel used and taken advantage of.

The other thing that bothers me on this site is that there are so many here now that are our party/our President right or wrong. That is scary and honestly no different thatn the MoveOn/DU Clintonistas that we used to all deride. No one is perfect, everyone makes mistake, but so many on here are so partisan that you can't have an intelligent discussion about the issue anymore. I do not want a Nacy Pelosi run house anymore than the next person, but I would like to see some acceptance on here of the fact that the Rep have screwed their base many times over the last 2-4 years and should be called on it. That doesn't seem to be a very popular option on FR which recently has become less a "site for grassroots conservatism" as the banner reads and more an arm of the GW Bush/Karl Rove wing of the Republican party.

Thank you for your response. I agree with everything you say for the most part, but take issue with the attitude that many have that those of us complaining just sit at home and whine all day.

I am also a memeber of Club For Growth and have given time and money to support conservative candidates here locally and in national elections including door to door get out the vote work.

I am not in Eric's(Dickerson like the football player) district but I have given to his campaign and talked him up to as many people as I know who are(by the way I was good friend of the party pick and I am glad he didn't get the nomination). And yes the race is close, but with the voter fraud that Miss Julia can bring to bear on election day she will be hard to beat. The precincts from her fiefdom are always the last to report and they always have just enough vote to carry the day.

I have written many emails and letter to the party leadership here in Indiana and at the national level, but haven't seen much for my efforts.

I agree that a glass half empty is better than a glass full of Democrats and that is why I already voted R. However, that doesn't change the fact that I don't like the direction the party is headed and feel I have the right to voice that option without, and I am not including your response in this, opening myself up to ridicule on a supposedly conservative website.

And I question your appraisal of the number of small government conservatives there are in the Republican party or on FR. At one time I might have agreed with the FR assessment, but it is hard to be a proud Bushbot and a small government conservative at the same time and I think the former out number the latter on this site by quite a bit anymore.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments.

Here's a thought. I once told my liberal family that my only problem with Bush is that he is not conservative enough. They, being liberals that think of Bush as a dangerous right winger (even in 2001), were perplexed ...

and yet I knew Bush from 1994 (Texas gov days). I saw how he operated. He always liked a 'right flank' to his right, and work to the middle. Bush is a human being and IMHO one of the real class acts to be in the White House. My point? ....

"but it is hard to be a proud Bushbot and a small government conservative at the same time and I think the former out number the latter on this site by quite a bit anymore."

I am a Bushbot and a small govt conservative. Both.
I recognize the good in Bush yet I havent compromised my own beliefs in small govt in that support.

I reconcile that by not expecting the impossible from our leaders, or expecting them to suddenly change who they are, but accept the 80% good they do above the 20% bad they do (your mileage will vary). I also reconcile that by being willing to criticize them (calmly and without hyperbole) when they deviate from my beliefs.

I think the difference between those ready to abandon the GOP and those of us who will stay and fight inside it come hell or high water is really a difference of attitude, not ideology. Politics is inevitably about compromise, and you cant get your way unless you are there, in the arena. I've been able to meet 2 local GOP congressmen personally multiple times and many other local GOP candidates and officeholders, simply by being a part of the GOP fundraising and campaigning infrastructure - ie "Helping Out". I dont have influence so much as knowledge that they represent what I believe already.

I know that keeping the GOP majority is the *only* way conservatives can retain influence in the national Debate on issues. A Democrat Congress will shut us out.

Good post, but I have to disagree that when you vote for a lib, you know what you get. At least in Presidential and Senate politics, the only time they win is when they run as a moderate. Hence, Hitlery's move to the right on certain issues. It's only in the House, with much smaller districts, that the candidates are more likely to show their true colors. Which is why we have plenty of "true" conservatives and true socialists in the House but too many "moderates" of both stripes in the Senate.

Demons often try to hide their liberalism just as much if not more than Republicans do!

Dear Reverend Tamzee, We were ALL warned to clean up the page.

I don't need to argue my case here, anyone who knows you sees right through your lies. Anyone who doesn't can easily visit the PA forum and see you and comrades constantly attacking and name-calling those who were supporting Republican candidates in PA. Your own words and history convict you entirely without any assistance from me.

Utter foolishness. While there are certainly issues to be disappointed with the Pubs about, replacing them with left-wing wackjobs (aka Democrats of today) is NO OPTION.

I'm fond of my nose. And I've refrained from cutting it off.

No need?

LOL

No chance because you are wrong. We were ALL warned and you know it. You think that you can claim innocence since the posts have been pulled, but they have been preserved.

But since you are claiming that I lied, please post IN FULL any posts where you believe that I am lying and provide proof that it is a lie.

Just like the dems that you act like, a charge is easy to make while backing it up is a lot tougher.

I do not deny posting facts and my opinion regarding those facts about certain republican politicians. I know that you prefer to kneel and grovel at their feet, but that isn't my style. I have no problem calling someone a phony conservative when there is ample evidence for that conclusion. Ricky is a phony conservative.

Ricky is a phony conservative.

The fact that you can call one of the most principled members of the US Senate a socialist indicates your inability to see this election for what it is......a life-death struggle with the radical left.

A defeat of the left now will cripple them for 2008.

Of course, your hatred for the GOP leaves you blind to the bigger picture here.
