Deliver a Spanking
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | October 22, 2006 | Colin McNickle

Posted on 10/22/2006 8:49:20 AM PDT by Conservative Goddess

I am your typical Republican "supervoter." .... But I'm seriously considering ending that streak this Nov. 7. ...

I'm also a contrarian -- a conservative with libertarian leanings. Combine all these characteristics, then mix in the aggregate Republican record, allow the ire it has created to rise and bake it for a few years and here's what comes out of the oven:

A party base that's mad as hell and no longer willing to rationalize GOP failures. It's a base whose crust grows darker and thicker -- i.e., angrier -- when prominent conservatives and Republicans -- politicians, pundits, radio talk-show hosts and think tankers sensing impending electoral doom -- pop out of their pumpkins and upbraid the watered-on for complaining about being wet.

....

...Pay no attention to the recidivists behind the curtain who, once every two years or four or six, make grand promises of fealty to conservative and party principles only to repeatedly fail to deliver. ... What's the definition of insanity again? In this case it's constantly returning Republicans to power and having the audacity to expect different results. And what could be more stupid than that?

....

Look, folks, it's time to take a stand. Returning this current crew of Republicans to power will only embolden them to spend more time, not less, off the conservative reservation. This is no time to dance the Rationalization Rumba. It is time for the GOP base to deliver a very big SMACK. It's the only way to start the process of true Republican/conservative reclamation.

Fellow Republicans and conservatives, do what you must on Nov. 7. But I, for one, refuse to yet again enter my polling place, vote for the usual GOP suspects...

It's time for the long-spanked to do some spanking.

I take it you won't object then? I'll gladly let others judge the exchange.

And since you're mischaracterizing our private exchange, in fact very near libeling me by implying I'd post sonething other than my actual words, I'm sure you won't object to my posting any of my private replies to you. A simple yes or no please.

"I am more about promoting true conservatism and how to do that."

Want to advance conservatism in America? ENSURE THE DEMOCRATS LOSE IN NOVEMBER. This will set the leftists back BIG TIME.

This is a big deal folks! Think clearly. Every thing is on the Democrats side - except their ideology... a clear rejection of Democrats at the polls will be a huge boost to conservative values!

"There is a world of difference.

Look at the justices that would not get through the
ratification process in the Senate. Alito and Roberts
would have had no chance under Majority Leader
Reid and Judiciary Chairman Shumer."

Correct!!!

If we lose 4 seats in the Senate, ie barely hang on .. then we have a fighting change for a very well qualified by not 'too extreme' type (ie a Kennedy not a Bork).

If the Democrats control the Senate, they will be back to liberal litmus tests and anyone with a hint of opposing Roe v Wade will be barred.

IT WOULD BE A HUGE SETBACK FOR THE PROLIFE CAUSE TO SEE THAT HAPPEN.

And yet, strangely, people who call themselves prolife are rejecting the best prolife Senator up for re-election right now - Senator Santorum - for a sockpuppet of Schumer, Leahey and Hillary.

And so-called conservatives are going alone with this absolute and utter travesty.

FOR SHAME!

As for those Democrats who likely are to gain power, they're so bad that their return tenure will be a very brief blip -- just enough time to scare the pants off the American people and better set the stage for real conservatives and real Republicans to rise again and start setting this country straight." I cannot buy this. It makes no sense. The Venezuelans somehow let Hugo Chavez get into power. I doubt that anything is going to remove him now that he's on top. People say, "Why haven't the Cubans overthrown Castro's oppressive regime?". Answer: they can't.

Great analogy... There were a few German industrialists who thought they could control that upstart Hitler too by letting him take control and thinking 'he's too crazy to last' ... I wonder what happened to them?

"Who says it's unthinking party loyalty? Are you paying attention to this thread? Republican are the only ones with stones enough to jettison their garbage in the primaries. Only then do you do the best you can with the team you made. That's right. We make our team, for better or worse."

Another very good point. The GOP garbase has been taken out, while the Dem garbage, like Menendez in NJ, or Jefferson, etc. stays on the ballot.

If you can find that rare once-in-a-lifetime event where the Democrat is more qualifed and more conservative, go vote for him. I've been voting for over 2 decades now, and never have I found such a case or reason to vote Democrat.

I used to vote Libertarian on occasion when there was no GOP choice, but ...
I've seen Libertarian candidates be used as stalking horses to help the Democrats win, so I will never vote Libertarian again. Same with CP and the other extremist right-wing parties. Plus the local "Vote Libertarian ... socially tolerant" is just a code-word for calling Republicans bigots, and I dont cater to a group that calls GOP names.

Now we have the most serious challenge to the GOP majority since 1994, its time to do something:
Broken-glass time, Republicans! Save the Congress!

Unity is Strength - Divided We Fall

"But, typically, you're missing the point. It's entirely reasonable, based on a historical comparison to 92/94 to conclude that losing the House this year could lead to greater gains in '08. I for one don't think the Ds could help themselves, the moonbats have too great an influence."

Wrong. A Dem House will make a Dem PResident in 2008 more likely ... there is historical precedent.

And since you're mischaracterizing our private exchange,

See there, there you go already.

And they weren't REPLIES to me; you Freepmailed me first; I responded to you.

You've managed to set up quite a strawman here.

I'm not agreeing to ANYTHING; you don't need my permission to post whatever you feel the need to post to make your point; just don't post any of my email to you, because, as I am sure you know, that's against the rules.

And judging by your last comment, I'm going to make this CLEAR: don't post my Freepmails to you OR your interpretation/characterization of my Freepmails to you.

The whole piece is well worth the time to read.

No it isn't, it's a steaming pile of digested oats masquerading as "principled" opposition to imperfect GOP candidates.

Doesn't anyone remember how many of these same perpetually angry soreheads punished and "reformed" the GOP in 1992 by allowing the most despicable piece of human debris ever to hold public office in the US to become President and Commander in Chief of our armed forces? Don't they realize that the man they helped elect by their "principled" refusal to vote for a Republican nominee, who I will admit was far less than perfect, was directly responsible for 9/11 and the other Islamic terror attacks that preceded it? And that isn't even touching on Clinton's treachery such as the sale of highly classified missile guidance technology to our enemy for money to fund his campaign. IMHO it will take decades, if ever, just for the US to recover from that misguided attempt to "reform" the GOP.

This time of war with a deadly and fanatical enemy is not the time to punish and "reform" the GOP by turning control of Congress over to traitorous swine such as Pelosi, Conyers, Waxman, Kennedy, Schumer, Clinton, et al. If Congress goes over to Democrat control next year another Islamic act of war far more deadly than 9/11 is not only probable it's virtually inescapable. Any patriotic conservative who falls for some Libertarian sorehead's prevarications and fails to vote for whatever Republican Congressional and Senatorial candidate is on his/her ballot will be actively aiding and abetting our nation's enemies in a time of war. I believe that refusing to vote for the Republican nominee thereby allowing Democrat traitors to control Congress will come back to bite that voter where the sun doesn't shine within six months of Democrats taking over Congress.

I don't usually post a reply when I'm angry and upset, and I apologize in advance if my rant is offensive. But this is one thread I can't and won't let go by without speaking my mind. There are 300 million different opinions on what American government should be and do, and very few if any of us will ever get even 3/4 of what we want in government. But that doesn't mean we should throw a spiteful temper tantrum that will ultimately allow our fanatical enemies to march in through the wide open gates with a brass band leading the parade.

"Okay here is a question for any Freepers who would like to answer. I am a Conservative and hold my nose and vote Republican only because I don't see that I have much of a choice. I agree with basically everything said in this piece, but I have already voted and voted straight Republican except for our worthless, but unopposed Rep. Senator."

The answer to your question is simple: There is more to politics than voting. Activism, media, lobbying, supporting pressure groups that support your causes, etc. Those are the things to do to advance conservative values.
It doesnt happen on its own, and it will NEVER happen if the Democrats, hostile to conservatives 100% take control.

For example, I've supported "Club for Growth" which has taken on RINOs in primary races, and in many cases, won.
We took out a RINO in Michigan this year, almost took down Chafee (who now will be replaced by equally liberal Democrat, no big loss there).

"Here locally we have a congressional candidate running who is a pretty good pick for a rather liberal district and would be replacing a total waste of vote Liberal, Socialist straight party incumbent, but since he defeated the party's pick in the primary they are doing nothing to support him. I have to believe that is the norm nationwide when you buck the party, which is definitely not conservative ideologically. So I am asking where do conservatives go and what do they do?"

Er, WHY DONT YOU HELP HIM!?!? Give money directly to *conservative* republicans. Walk the block, make phone calls, whatever it takes. ... what his name btw, is he the one going up against Julia Carson? Last i heard the race was close!

"I want to know what a person who is a small government, pro-life, pro-gun, fiscal conservative, who is strong on national security but can see the flaws in our Iraq policy supposed to do."

You've just described most freepers ... no, most Republicans. The voting booth is a blunt instrument... more surgical ways of getting your message to the Republican leadership are avaialable by picking up the pen, the phone, or sending other forms of communication.

Look at the SC appointees and then say that the Conservatives weren't paid back for their support. If they can't field their own candidates with enough support to win and so decide to help the left through their "I'll show those Republicans, I'll stay home" attitude then they are putting party before country and leaving us holding the bag. F'them.

Also, I don't see how electing someone who wants Rumsfeld to step down helps the WOT.

Its preferable to electing someone who also wants President Bush to step down. Check Lieberman's votes and statements on the war and contrast them to who is behind Lamont. You can't really believe there is no difference between Lieberman and Lamont.

The media will lie, spin, manipulate, twist, snip, dilute, water down, and mask any news so that it will get the desired results.

If we vote them back in -- the bums, not all of them are bad -- how will the press spin that?

Just as our rights should not be predicated on the acts of a criminal, our actions and our votes should not be determined by how someone will tell the story of what we did and why.

Do the right thing and leave the results to God.

"The "spanking" was supposed to occur during the primary. This can be successfully done, as it was done in the Alaska primary for governor."

Yes but even in Alaska the rokerfeller repubs are threatening to do a reverse same stay at home tactic. Sarah is facing a tough race against a true blue battle tested socialist who knows how to divide and conquer. It will not take many repubs who went down in flames with Murkowski to stay at home or even worse to vote Knowles to throw a solidly conservative state back into the democratic socialists camp. There is a cancer in the body politic of the repubs and I for one do not know the answer. Many scoffed at her position of being against a non-definable "establishment" but from what I see they are validating her claim here. And yes I was one of the 18% who voted for Murkowski although once the election was over I am 110% Sarah Palin, besides she is a lot easier on the eyes than any other candidate.

WOSG, you are 100% correct. Sadly, there are far too many on this site who only imagine that they are Conservatives and that they "understand" politics, when neither are true or factual. For some bizarre reason or other, political naifs really believe that they and they alone REALLY "get it", whilst the rest of us are some kind of brain dead morons and this, THIS, is the face of the easily proven fact that they have yet to ever be correct about anything they have ever posted to FR. LOL

ed, if anyone is a barking moonbat, it is the small but VERY vocal group here, who are the UNAPPEASEABLES/CUT OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACERS!
