Lawmaker Outraged by Sniper Footage on CNN
LA Times ^ | October 21, 2006 | Tony Perry

SAN DIEGO — CNN has become "the publicist for an enemy propaganda film" by broadcasting a video showing an insurgent sniper in Iraq apparently killing an American soldier, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee said here Friday.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon) called for the Pentagon to oust any CNN reporter embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq.

"I think Americans like to think we're all in this together," Hunter said. "The average American Marine or soldier has concluded after seeing that film that CNN is not on their side."

CNN said it broadcast the brief video to show the threat that insurgent snipers posed to U.S. troops.

"Whether or not you agree with us in this case, our goal, as always, is to present the unvarnished truth as best we can," CNN producer David Doss wrote in a blog on the network's website.

Tony Snow, President Bush's press secretary, said the insurgents were hoping to "break the will of the American people" by giving the video to CNN.

What about treason? Do you know if a civilian can file a complaint for this?

How is showing that Americans are getting killed in Iraq treason? Even in WW2 the government didn't censor pictures of dead soldiers. People were reminded a price was being paid. What the hell are you afraid of? That people will think that trying to civilize the Middle East is a fool's errand and not worth American lives anymore?

Absolutely.

I'm thinking of what it was like in WWII--when even the mail from the GIs was "censored" before it was delivered home.

This generation has a different concept of freedom, I think.

Their principal was genuinely curious was to why they would do that. I'm surprised the schcool system doesn't supply the photos and require them to be posted, but that's just me. I mention this to show that there is an inversion, a pernicious inversion, of civic values in the US.

Boy, they got a lot of civic values in North Korea. Every family has a picture of Kim in their home.

Of course, they would not show the "unvarnished truth" of a beheading by some nutcase Jihaddi bully. There are a lot of "unvarnished truths" that editorial good judgment would not put on TV. This story is another example of how our MSM works as the PR office for the terrorists. As Lenin said, terrorism is propaganda by deed. He further added that the purpose of terrorism is to terrorize. CNN's footage from their friends in the Islamic Army of Iraq, is intended to scare Americans, erode our support for the mission, and cast the terrorists as invincible. If this footage cast the terrorists in a weak position, would they give it to CNN? If it cast the terrorists in a weak position and made our forces appear strong, would CNN broadcast it? CNN should show us the "unvarnished truth" of how it decides what is newsworthy.

This makes perfect sense, CNN, a friend of America's enemies, already proved their disloyalty when they ADMITTED being in the tank for Saddam Hussein (per their former talking editor/director Eason Jordan) and essentially said they had to comply with Saddam's wishes in order to have a news bureau in Baghdad.

CNN was founded by a traitor (Ted Turner), it only follows that they would continue that tradition.

It's clear the insurgents' best tactical weapon is our media, attacking us at our weakest link - our home-front, and our Democratic Party genuflecting at their contributions. Their offensive is peaking for our election and yesterday's videos looked like they were scripted in Hollywood for a blockbuster movie, with all the black billowing smoke and all.

In this election, American voters will proclaim who they really are and whether George Bush was right when he said, "we will prevail" or whether OBL was right when he said, "Americans will cut and run."

Why did CNN do this?

Answer one: Most importantly, money. CNN and all other TV networks and local stations are in the Fall ratings period. Thus, they will do almost anything, including, IMHO, in this case, treason for viewers. The ratings they garner now will be used by their salespeople to convince advertisers to buy commercial time on their network. Ultimately, ratings and, thereby, money, is the King in television. "Nothing else" matters.

Answer two: And, of course, they did this because they are a bunch of lefties.

But mostly, it's all about the money.

FWIW, I sincerely hope the Feds will do something about this. For starters, quit taking questions from CNN reporters in new conferences.

At some point we have to have the right answer to the question: "Why does the MSM and the liberal movement in general want America to lose this war?"

1. Some say they want to return to power. That's a possible answer, but it is unsatisfying to me. It seems incomplete.

2. America must take it's place, a lesser one, in a socialist community of states under a world socialist union. Therefore, it must be defeated, demoralized, and defanged.

That one makes sense.

#54. your #2 reason listed is spot on Fellow Veteran!!!!

Here's the organization behind this in America:

http://www.dsausa.org/

Nancy Pelosi's behind the scenes organization.

Over 50 members of her side of the aisle in the U.S. House of Representatives, and a few independants including Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont belong to the "Progressive Caucas", which is the power arm of the democRATic socialists of Amerika!!!!:-(

D2

P.S. This is why ALL Republicans must VOTE on Election Day to prevent Pelosi's ilk from taking over the country!!!!

When, oh when, will CNN be kicked off the air in the U.S. and let the rest of the world support their American-hating butts???

Whatever day it is, it will be yet another day in the destruction of our beloved Constitution. :-( Let's not forget what our troops are fighting for--it's not to make Iraq free to eliminate freedom of the press!

Now, if you meant to say "driven off the air by low ratings and their own business decision," then it would be a different story. But I think that advocating disregard of the First Amendment is as anti-Free Republic as what CNN is doing (though I don't presume to speak for JimRob when I say anything about FR. :-)

I don't like to see our troops cut down any more than you do--any day, my brother could be one of them. :-( And our response as good American citizens should be to get the word out to other good people of this country and the world that the truth is one thing--if unvarnished--but CNN is actually painting the truth over with its own colors (pink and red?).

FRegards..

... that old goat, Jack Cafferty

Aptly described. He goes off like the SNL Goat Boy.

I remember Cafferty from the 70's, he always had trouble keeping his bias to himself. Lately, whatever valve he had between his brain and his mouth has withered away completely. In his defense, it could be some sort of progressive dementia he can't help.

Let's flood CNN with small cans of varnish and brushes. Let their lobby fill up with so much varnish that they get sited for becoming a waste dump, illegal dumping at that, or, maybe they get cited from the gubermint for breaking VOC laws and not having MSDS sheets on hand.

LOL!
