Israel says Iran bribed Hamas to drop hostage release deal
Le Monde (AFP) ^ | October 19 2006

Le Monde is running a French-language AFP story stating that, according to Israeli UN Ambassador Dan Gillerman, Iran paid Hamas leader Khaled Mechaal $50 million to get him to kill a deal for the release of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The Ambassador told AFP that Egypt negotiated a deal with the kidnappers that had been accepted by Israel, but was then torpedoed at the last minute by the Iranian bribe. Gillerman didn't say what Israel was offering in return for Shalit, but presumably it was planning to release a large number of Palestinian prisoners.

Here is the original French text of the article (I couldn't get BabbleFish to work, maybe someone else will have better luck):

My advice to Israel: give the ****ers one day to release Shalit, or watch the gaza strip get firebombed from end to end.

It is shocking to me that the world seems to have abandoned the Israelis being held hostage by these terrorists.

Even more shocking is the news that French forces in Lebanon have threatened to fire on Israeli aircraft searching for their missing people.

"Gillerman didn't say what Israel was offering in return for Shalit, but presumably it was planning to release a large number of Palestinian prisoners. "

Then they should execute the prisoners instead. As long as they are alive, Israelis will be in danger of being kidnapped so that they can be exchanged for the prisoners.

Mubarak didn't mention money but he basically said the Egyptian/Saudi plan was kiboshed from Hamas command in Damascus, press didn't seem much interested in that at the time. Then Hezbollah made its attack a few days later.

Iran saved Olmert from his wimpish prisoner trade. Olmert, the foreign minister, etc. publicly stated that they were learning about real life in the Middle East. The humiliation of Saudi Arabia earned Hezbollah not one but two fatwas in tacit support of Israel.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said on Monday that Israel had offered to release up to 1,000 prisoners in exchange for captured soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit, but Hamas had turned down the proposal.

"[There was] a deal that could have freed 900 to 1,000 prisoners, but sadly they have decided to keep holding him," he told Al-Arabiyeh Television.

So......

Hamas leader Khaled Mechaal, put $50 million in his pocket - and in return left 1000's of his fellow Muslims in the hands of the hated Jews?

Greed is thicker than blood?

I will not mourn the incineration of large areas of that lunatic breeding zone...

Here is the interpretation I got from Babelfish:

Israel shows Iran to have ruined an agreement on a captured soldier The ambassador of Israel with UNO, daN Gillerman, showed Thursday Iran to have paid money with a Palestinian leader to ruin an agreement sponsored by Egypt for the release of the Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants.

"We have all the reasons to believe that the Iranian mode bribed Khaled Mechaal, the chief of Hamas (...), the Iranians poured 50 million dollars to him to avoid and sabotage an imminent release of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit", declared Mr. Gillerman with the press, the end of a meeting of the Security Council on the Middle East.

"I made share with the Security Council of my serious concern, if it is that which the Iranian mode made to prevent a humane initiative, I trempble with the idea of what it will make in the future to avoid a diplomatic initiative aiming at ruining his nightmarish efforts and its dreams to obtain the nuclear capacity", it added. I believe that the Security Council is worried by that and I hope that these concerns will be translated into acts very quickly ", still said Mr. Gillerman.

The Western countries work with the drafting of a draft Resolution aiming at imposing economic sanctions and commercial on Iran for its refusal to suspend its activities of uranium enrichment.

The Israeli Minister for the Infrastructures, Binyamin Ben Eliezer, had charged Thursday to Hamas the failure of an agreement sponsored by Egypt for the release of the Israeli soldier.

"Egypt had worked for an agreement which we had accepted. But at the last time, all was changed by Hamas and especially by Khaled Mechaal ", the chief of the political office of the Palestinian movement, had declared the minister with the end of a meeting in Cairo with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.

Mr. Mubarak, whose country plays a part of mediator in the crisis born of the capture of Gilad Shalit at the end of June with the edge of the Gaza Strip, had made state in September of a progression in the discussions, assuring that Israel was ready to release from many Palestinian prisoners in exchange of the soldier. But Khaled Mechaal, whose movement asks for the release of 1.000 prisoners, showed Israel week last to refuse the principle of this exchange and to thus block the agreement.

Here is an alternate translation:

Israel accuses the iran of have done to fail an agreement on a captured soldier

The israel ambassador to the UN, Dan Gillerman, accused Thursday the iran to have poured money to a Palestinian leader to do to fail an agreement sponsored by the egypt for the liberation of the Israeli soldier captured by campaigning Palestinians.

"We have all the reasons to believe that the Iranian system bribed Khaled Mechaal, the boss of the Hamas (...), the Iranians poured for him 50 millions of dollars to avoid and sabotage an imminent liberation of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit", declared Mr. Gillerman to the press, to the coming from a meeting of the security Council on the Near East.

"I informed the security Council of my serious preoccupation, if this that that the Iranian system did to prevent a humanitarian initiative, I trempble to the idea of this that it will do in the future to avoid a diplomatic initiative aiming to do to fail its efforts and its nightmarish dreams to obtain the nuclear capacity", he added.

I believe that the security Council is preoccupied by that and I hope that these preoccupations will translate themselves in acts very quickly", again said Mr. Gillerman.

The western countries work to the compilation of a resolution project aiming to impose economical and commercial penalties to the iran for his refusal to suspend its enrichment activities of uranium.

The Israeli minister of Infrastructures, Binyamin Ben Eliezer, had ascribed Thursday to the Hamas the failure of an agreement sponsored by the egypt for the liberation of the Israeli soldier.

"Egypt had worked for an agreement that we had accepted. But to the last moment, all was changed by the Hamas and especially by Khaled Mechaal", the boss of the office politics of the Palestinian movement, had declared the minister to the coming from an encounter to the Cairo with the Egyptian president Hosni Moubarak.

Mr. Moubarak, of which the country plays a role of mediator in the born crisis of the capture of Gilad Shalit fine June to the edge of the band of Gaza, had done state in September of a progression in the discussions, assuring that israel was ready to liberate many Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the soldier.

But Khaled Mechaal, of which the movement asks the liberation of 1.000 prisoners, accused Israel last week to refuse the principle of this exchange and to impede thus the agreement.
