GOP Will Win in November

"Run for the hills, the dam has burst!" was the alarm shouted by the horde of panicked people racing to get out of town ahead of the floodwaters in the famous James Thurber story that ended with someone halting the exodus by asking, "What dam?"
At the moment, we're hearing a similar cry about the coming November 7 congressional elections. This time, according to the media, the barbarian Democratic hordes and a few nervous Nellies in the GOP, it is the Republican dam bursting, ready to wash any number of Republican members of Congress off Capitol Hill.
For the Democrats and their media flunkies it's written in the sands. The raging waters will carry off at the very least 15 Republicans and hand Mrs. Pelosi the House speakership. Some of the more sanguine Democrats even expect the tide to reach the Senate and drown the re-election hopes of six Republicans, thus handing the upper body to the Democrats.
Along with the late Mr. Thurber's character, I am inclined to ask, "What dam?"
Do you mean, for example, the tiny crack in the levee allegedly created by the Mark Foley scandal? If so, as they say in New Yawk, "Forgeddaboutit." The Foley scandal will have an effect in maybe two House races, and that effect may, even in those cases, prove minimal and not decisive.
We are being told by the ever-so-wise media savants that the conservative Republican base is so disturbed by l'affair Foley that they will express their discomfort with the GOP by staying home on Election Day, thereby depriving the Republicans of the electoral muscle they need to win the fight.
Now, there may be a small number of idiots who actually believe they will somehow best serve the conservative cause by putting into power, by their absence at the polls, an assemblage of loony leftists who will turn the Hill in the nation's largest nuthouse, raise their taxes, tie the hands of the president in the middle of a war where the West's very survival is at stake, and advance the cause of socialism that is so dear to their hearts.
At the most, that cadre of discontented conservatives will attract a lot of noise, but because they are the tiniest of minorities and obviously slightly deranged, their protests will fall on deaf ears.
At the moment, however, it is an article of faith among the Democrats' media lackeys that these disgruntled Republicans are a near majority among conservatives and their allies in the so-called religious right, and they will sit on their hands on November 7. In other words, the Republican Party will not be able to get its vote out on Election Day.
Boy, are they in for a surprise!
Whirring away out of sight is the GOP's get-out-the-vote machinery and it's well oiled, its cogs spinning smoothly and ready to produce a record-breaking turnout on November 7. Mr. Rove and his companion Mr. Mehlman have been busy fine-tuning the machinery for over two years, testing it with spectacular results in little-noticed local elections across the nation, and they are ready to roll and drive their troops to the polls.
It is an article of faith among the media elite that the average American voter out there in fly-over country is a dolt, totally incapable of sifting out the political wheat from the political chaff. Only with the guidance of their intellectual and cultural superiors in the media can they possibly make sensible decisions and vote in the ... sniff ... "proper" manner.
The problem for all the pretty boys and leggy blondes at the networks, the elites at the New York Times, the Washington Post and the rest of the socialist media, is that outside of their sheltered enclaves on the East and West Coasts, nobody is listening to them anymore.
We don't have to – we now have Fox Cable, Rush Limbaugh, my gutsy pal Mike Reagan, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and about 600 talk radio hosts, Web sites such as the top-rated NewsMax.com, Lucianne.com and Matt Drudge, and a host of well-researched and well-reported blogs to deliver the truth rather than the phony pap the mainstream media have been feeding us for years.
Thanks to these feisty news sources, residents of the Red States have been able to penetrate the liberal iron curtain and get the facts the liberal mainstream media would, if they could, prevent them from learning. To them, an educated electorate sounds their death knell.
The bottom line is that no matter how hard they try, the media cannot get the American people to believe that their safety would be safer in the hands of the Democrats, that cutting and running in Iraq and exposing the entire Middle East to a certain and bloody catastrophe is a good thing, and that their money is best spent by Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean and Harry Reid and not by themselves.
November 7 is going to be a battle royal, not easily won, but when the smoke clears, Nancy Pelosi will still be the feckless House minority leader, Harry Reid will remain the leader of the Senate minority, all will be well, and God will be safe in His heavens.
The dam is still standing, with nary a leak.

All this Republican machinery and enthusiasm for getting out the vote is shunning Kathleen Harris in Florida and is not visible for Foley's replacement Negron.I am not convinced.
No, the polls are what is the wishful thinking. Go look at the internals of these polls to find out just how bad and contrived they are. The ever egregious NewsWeak poll had 11 percentage points more Democrats than Republicans when the actual differential in the voting population is about 3-4 points. That grossly exaggerates Democratic opinion in these polls, and the others have been doing the same skewing all year long by overpolling Democrats if you look at the numbers.
From what I'm seeing, Republicans are fired up and angry at the Democratic hypocrisy and dirty tricks over the Foley thing. It is near consensus opinion among the base as I'm hearing on talk radio and here on FR that conservatives would crawl over hot coals to vote next month they're so pissed off at this crap. Conservatives know what's at stake in this election and it's not some ex-congressman's perverted private life.
And I give the American public who aren't necessarily part of the GOP more credit too than to tie their vote to one idiot who isn't their congressman. From what I'm hearing people who have talked to others say, they are shrugging it off saying "He's not my congressman." They see this as a political cheap shot too.
And other than Hastert's stupid press conference yesterday, I don't see anyone other than the media being distracted by this. Clearly the president isn't and continues to make the case to the American public that we're in a world of threats that need to be addressed substantively and not by playing to an extreme left wing base like the Democrats.
No, this is not wishful thinking at all. The wishful thinking is coming from the Democrats and their media organ grinder monkeys and the rigged polls they put out. The GOP's GOTV effort is going to be huge and set the Democrats back on their heels. Go read last week's Time Magazine account of how good this effort has gotten, even down to knowing which individual households to target. (I'll find you the link if you're unable to find it yourself. You will be truly astonished at it.) They're scary good at this and have it down to an absolute science. And the Democrats can't begin to match the GOP's money or ability at GOTV. The Democrats are whistling past the graveyard having no clue about the GOTV juggernaut that's coming their way. I'm not saying the GOP will have any net gains, but we will hold on.
So turn off the media background noise and develop some confidence. Believing the arrogant pronouncements of one of the biggest propaganda machines in the history of mankind is just a waste of your time. Foley is the media's distraction, not the rest of voting America's. Most of the rest of America doesn't share the biases, obsessions and shallowness of the Clown Car Media.

They are looking at an impending disaster alright, but I don't think they know it. Their capacity for self-delusion is infinite.

Rather than lose 14 seats to create your scenario, I would rather add 14 seats to our majority. The DUmmies would still flip out and then slowly go quiet as they fall into extreme depression. In my scenario, we can have our cake and eat it too.
Don't doubt just because you don't see what's going on. Negron is going to have plenty of support. And if Harris isn't getting the benefit of a GOTV operation it's because she's too far back in the polls to make the effort worthwhile. GOTV is targetted towards races we can win, not races where the candidate is behind double digits. The RNC doesn't have unlimited resources. If Harris were withing 4-5, the GOTV for her would fire up without question. But she's too far back to be able to wage a successful GOTV effort to put her over the top.
Of course, the polls are skewed. Watch the numbers. They don't add up to 100%. Some don't even add up to 90% Where are the rest of the voters not represented by the percents that are given? During the presidential election of 04 they kept showing Bush and Kerry either tied at 48% or Kerry "leading" at 48% When they factored the entire 100% the day before the election, the rest of the percentile points went to Bush, who won 52 to 48% over Kerry.
Perhaps, perhaps not. There's plenty of wishful thinking elsewhere, among the rats and the “teach ’em a lesson” brigade.
It seems to me the overconfidence has been on the dims side and yes that will be dangerous to them, we always get the vote out and with Rove (that magnificent bastard) on our side I really love our chances to maintain control.
If Democrats don't win control of Congress, that will clearly be a bigger loss than them than the loss of a handful of GOP seats for the GOP. That has been the focus of the Democratic effort, to control Congress, not just to take away 7 or 8 GOP House seats. There's no amount of Pelosi/Reid/Emmanuel/Schumer spin that can turn a failure to take control of one or both chambers of Congress into being a win for the Democrats.

I'm with you on that 100%. I like to see polls saying that we will lose. Because it ignites more of our folks to vote. And on the flip side, causes lazy dems to stay home since they think it's unnecessary to get off their collective lazy asses and vote.

The fact is, a sleeping giant has been awakened on the right. This will do little to add to the fuel of Democratic partisans already determined to defeat the GOP. But it has fired up a lot of Republicans who had previously been disaffected and we're not going to vote. I've heard them saying not only will they now vote, they're donating to the RNC!
