Not necessarily news. I heard years ago that the treasures were taken from Rome to Africa, and from there to Constantinople; and that Justinian had sent them back to the Nea Church in Jerusalem.
After that, they disppeared--quite possibly hidden when the Persians or Arabs invaded.
YOU THINK THIS IS GOOD?? YES, IT'S GREAT! AND IF YOU LOVE HISTORY, AND CURRENT EVENTS, YOU GOTTA SEE FRED NERKS BIO!!!!
Probably melted down centuries ago by one or another invader....
Thanks!
That letter written by Peter Betbasoo that I posted on my bio page is OUTSTANDING!
I use it as a reply to any article that assumes to tell us about the myth of islam's "Golden Age"
"Not necessarily news."
I know. But I'm an optimist. I still hope they do find it.
GGG list?
Temple Treasure.
Alas, this is the fourth such topic. :'(
One of the most interesting adventures in my life concerns tracking down a similar lost treasure in Israel. Being the world's expert on Medieval reliquaries, I was surprised and elated to find an unknown ivory reliquary for sale in an antique shop in Tel Aviv. The dealer gave me photos but did not know the provenance. So I aked a friend I had madew who had a business selling necklaces made of old beads Bedouins found in the deserts and he took me through a maze of back alleys to show my pictures to a huge tall Arab dressed all in black. He told me it had been smuggled out of a recent find in Sidon. Then we went our separate ways in the bustling old city, for trafficking in antiquities is illegal, don't you know?
Alas, they did not leave behind an inventory...unlike the first looters did:

Gods, Graves, Glyphs (alpha order)
Yes, it is. The link in the letter has gone dead. Seems to me it's a portion of something which was even longer, which I read several years ago. I seem to remember something about pre-Islamic culture in Pakistan & a current push by some Muslims to claim that the Taj Mahal was built by Muslims. The Hagia Sophia may have also gotten a mention.
Indiana Jones ping.
fascinating!

from your link:
"Dr Kingsley will reveal his findings in Gods Gold: The Quest for the Lost Temple Treasure of Jerusalem, to be published by John Murray on October 5."
hmmm...just a marketing thingy?
Could be, though I was thinking that much of the info from both of those were addressed together somewhere. As I said, it was a number of years ago, so it could be that I somehow integrated the info in my own mind. During the run up to going into Iraq, a Chaldean missionary living in India sparked my interest in the different early Christian sects.
I agree that the Muslims had nothing to do with building Hagia Sophia (since there were no Muslims in the world at the time). For that matter, the Israelites did not build the great pyramids, whatever Menahem Begin might have thought.
