Not necessarily news. I heard years ago that the treasures were taken from Rome to Africa, and from there to Constantinople; and that Justinian had sent them back to the Nea Church in Jerusalem.
After that, they disppeared--quite possibly hidden when the Persians or Arabs invaded.
