By saying on Thursday night that he will push to legalize gay marriage, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer put himself at the vanguard of the effort to recognize such unions, staking out a position that most prominent Democrats, including Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, have shied away from.
Mr. Spitzer, who is running for governor and holds a commanding lead in the polls, made his strongest declaration yet in support of gay marriage in his remarks to the Empire State Pride Agenda, the states leading gay lobbying group. He told the audience, We will make it law in New York.
If elected, Mr. Spitzer, a Democrat, would be the most prominent state official in the nation to call for the legalization of gay marriage, though Democratic candidates for governor in California and Massachusetts have also expressed support. Many prominent Democrats, including Senator Clinton, have supported gays on other issues but not on this one, which has led to friction in their relations with gay leaders. Among the few prominent politicians who support it are Senators Russell D. Feingold of Wisconsin and Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, both Democrats; and Lincoln Chafee, a Rhode Island Republican.
The nationwide effort to legalize gay marriage has sputtered since a Massachusetts court legalized such unions in that state in 2004. In July this year, the New York State Court of Appeals said the issue should be decided by the State Legislature, giving the issue new immediacy in the state.

Spitzer?
Mr. Spitzer... made his ... declaration ... in support of gay marriage... We will make it law in New York.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."
Marriage is a holy sacrament and therefore an establishment of religion,
not an establishment of the state. It simply is not within the purview of
the state to bestow sacraments on the grounds of swearing an oath to
live a life of sin. To do so would not only go against the fundamental
freedom of religion that this country is founded upon but would install a
state mandated religion antithetical to most faiths. Anyone advocating,
as spitzer has hear, to make such unconstitutional law if elected should
be called out on it. TRAITOR!
Figures!
Spitzer will destroy NY. He has made his "career" by going after most of Wall Street to punish them for making money. He then extorts multi-million dollar settlements from Citigroup, etc. Nothing gets resolved. He just lines his coffers.
New York State has a very explicit constitution that clearly states marriage is between a man and a woman. The state supreme court has already affirmed this. Spitzer has no way of legalizing gay marriage unless he plans on throwing the constitution out which will no doubt lead to his recall, or better yet, his arrest.
I hope New Yorkers wake up and realize what a threat to society this left-wing, secular, moonbat really is.
Anything that helps Faso receive more votes this November is always a good thing. I doubt that Faso really has a chance, but it does help whenever the D's get too overconfident and then "step in it" too often just prior to the general elections.

Notice how the NYT fails UTTERLY to report the complete story.
Homosexual based marriage has been RESOUNDINGLY defeated across the USA.
Not just resounding but DEAFANING once people go to the polls to stop the radical judges.
This lunatic candidate did not join the vanguard, the vanguard is STOPPING homosexuals from their effort to normalize homsoexual conduct. (ie see Foley)
This lunatic just went full bore into the leftist wacko fringe!
The Republican candidate better come out full force and LOUD against this!
The state of Calif passed a referendum.
Most likely they will pass a constitutional amendment too.
Remember the "vanguard" is to stop homoseuxals.
It is the sexual fetish minority that wants to normalize homosexuals.
