Do you think it was some kind of set up and now the pages, in fear, are playing the "it's just a prank" defense? Maybe it was something more sinister, and the prank claim is to protect themselves. Guess I need to be fitted for my tinfoil hat...You know what - I think ANYTHING is possible at this point - this is absolutely nuts!

More .... Per Drudge:
"According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats. This source, an ally of Edmund, also adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund."
The news come on the heels that former FBI Chief Louis Freeh has been named to investigate the mess.

I don't think that he has done a great job as Speaker overall but I don't think that this should force him to have to quit. While many people on this site don't like gays, no one is going to say it is a crime or close to being what Jefferson did. However, for Hastert to get rid of Foley it would have meant doing it because the man is gay and let's see how well that one would have gone over.

I wish I could see how. The Welstone moment showcased bad behavior on the dems part. Try as the MSM did, they could not cover for the dems. In this case, all I see here (that is in plain view) is bad Repub behavior. It is easy for the MSM to cover up the dems bad behavior (sitting on these IM's) in this instance.

As far as I'm concerned this 21 year old former page is a queer SOB. Well...he did list "ballroom dancing" on his my-space hobbies list. In one of the IMs he also tells Foley about how he just got home from waltzing lessons.

Right, I first heard the gay talk about him years ago and I don't even live in his state. I think it is more likely that he had other conversations with young men.

The MSM and rats will use the same logic as with Bush's National Guard records, fake but true. But didn't Foley actually send the messages? How does that make them fake?

If what Drudge has posted is true, these electronic brown shirters who villified Denny, other republicans and us for standing up for Denny, need their posting privileges revoked until after the elections.
Some of the vile bs they have posted today has been unbelieveable.

honestly, this 'news' smells. anyone who read those messages would have a hard time finding them to have been a 'prank' even if from an admittedly (now) gay man.
People who think this affair helps the republicans in any way, or who believe this 'news' like gospel, are missing a big point - no one is going to find the IM's a favorable item for republicans, and the Freeh 'investigation' will drag out beyond the election.
As you note, he resigned IMMEDIATELY, meaning there is surely a heck of a lot of fire somewhere for this much smoke.
To: eeevil conservative
EVEN if true we need a house cleaning after the election. These guys are starting to make the same mistakes the Dems do. Some of the Staffers on our side did try to cover this up.

According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. So while the kids were pranking sex talk, Foley was probably serious. He didn't know it was a prank, that's why he stepped down.

You mean, "HUGE"?Hey, at least I can spell "serious" right when I want to! ;-) Foley is toast and deservedly so. Even if this was baiting, he was responsible for his behavior and should've know this kind of crap would wind up haunting him. What's his district like? Moderate or conservative? Anybody know?

So why did he resign, instead of denying it?I think it's been pretty well established that Foley is a pervert who likes teenage boys, and we're well rid of him.
That does not negate or excuse the despicable behavior by the Democrats and the media in smearing the entire Republican party and, to at least some extent, orchestrating how and when this information leaked to the public.
One thing the 'rats haven't counted on is the contrast between how Republicans handle this sort of thing verses how they handle it. We dump 'em; they honor 'em.
