According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.

The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.

The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.

The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

I am so TIRED of people making comments that do NOT advance any knowledge but in fact derail the discussion and try to stir up fights.

The following FACTS need to be accepted by all people who wish to discuss this story:

1. Foley was wrong and should have resigned. In fact, he was dishonest and should have retired 2 years ago, at least.

2. Communications were with EX-pages who had gone back to their home towns.

3. Hastert only knew about the innocuous e-mails, and not the lewd IM's.

4. e-mails and IM's are DIFFERENT.

5. There is no law against being a homosexual. It is sinful but not illegal.

6. The ex-page who received the e-mail is a different person from the person who received the lewd IM's.

6. As of now, with the exception of Tyson Vivyan who has no proof, all communications were with young men who were over 16, and the lewd stuff was with someone over 18. They are NOT little kids, and although repellant, Foley is not a pedophile, which definition includes an attraction to PRE-adolescent boys.

People who misstate these FACTS are either too obtuse to discuss this issue or are deliberately trying to stir up dissension.

Vivyan said he was nominated as a page by Rep. John. J. Duncan, R-Tenn. Don Walker, Duncan's deputy chief of staff, confirmed Thursday to the AP that Vivyan was a page from
Duncan's district.

"We did not get any complaints form him while he was a page or after he was a page or anytime thereafter until Monday," Walker said. "As soon as we learned of it we turned it over to the authorities."

Thanks for the information on CBS..I tuned into the stations that carry Rush,Hannity and Levin.(Fox and ABC radio).. I watch local news at times on TV and a few shows..I have been busy getting my house and yard in shape after a long absence and it does keep me hopping!

I quit the newspaper long ago when my frequent long trips out of town had me always having to call and cancel delivery and I found the internet was better! Free Republic is invaluable..I lurk a lot on news/political threads.I don't have time to read the blogs I used to read!

Back to the subject..I deplore Foley's disgusting IMs. He was easily "lured".I do not blame Hastert for not catching on to a serious problem with the information he says he had in the original Emails..I am distressed over the possible damage that has been done and I am very angry with Foley and anyone who knew this and held out until it would cloud the upcoming election.I stay angry at the dems.
That the dem operatives would reveal this after it was not possible to have Foley's name removed from the ballot is business as usual.

May God protect us, our Armed Forces and this Nation from a Dem led House or Senate!

I saw that. What we don't know is if the press is deliberately misspelling Vivyan's name, or if anything on the net has been "disappeared" before he made his statement.

For instance, we don't know if the Congressman confirmed over the phone that someone named Robert Tyson Vivian served as a page, and then the press reports it as Tyson Vivyan.

Hillary's people did this several times, in order to hide donations from certain groups. They would type in a name on a list with a false typo and it would keep unsavory associations from being noticed.

Apparently the “prank‚” may lead to more revelations such as a “book deal” that some of pages were hoping to get, a kind of “Capital Hill 90210. What would “sauce” the offer up more than to have a “learing pervert congressman” in the script?

Hello all,
Yes, the book is still in progress. Outline is complete. Four of the fifteen chapters are in rough draft form (the chapters with input from previous Pages has not been completed - this part will take the longest since I have to spend so much time interviewing people and I've left this part until the end, although I have received some input from a very few people.) I have an agent (my husband is a published author), but no publisher yet. I am also working with a company that let's you self publish, sort of Print on Demand. And yes, you do get assigned an ISBN and it will be available at all the major book sellers. So I will do that if my agent can not get a publisher interested. Pictures have not been chosen, many more edits to go through. It's a long process. I've had to squeeze it in with my other responsibilities, so it's taking longer than I thought. But it IS going to happen, at some point in time.

Foley wasn't KNOWN to be gay, remember. He had never said so, and committee assignments are, I believe, based on seniorority. If he asked for it and was senior on the list, on what reason could it be denied? You can't deny someone a position based on suspicion.
