According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.
The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.
The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.
The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

I haven't heard anybody mention that The kid was 18 during the IM'S. Has anyone cnn or FOX OR MSNBC PICKED UP ON THAT YET?
News reports say there are 3 pages with IMs, not just this one page. They aren't explicit sex IMs like this one set, but they are soliciting sex.
I can't verify any of this, I just heard it on the radio, but in one case a page asked if he could stay at Foley's house and he said yes if the page had sex with him. The page was supposedly 17.
Now, again that is disgusting to me. But it's not really "using the internet to solicit sex", and in DC the sex would be legal because the age of consent is 16. But still disgusting to me.
I only know our local radio station knows it. But I haven't heard it on any other MSM sources. They also haven't mentioned he was out of the page program in 2002 so people keep thinking he was a page at the time.
I think they are confused; it's 3 new pages with emails, according to ABC.
Second that. You should find the various arguments I've been in this evening... listening to Mr. "nopardons" you would think Foley was just a generally great guy.
I don't see where this helps Foley. The kid "goaded" him into making lurid remarks? How? It doesn't imply that Foley knew he was part of any joke, it only says the kid egged him on. He still said what he said, and I don't get how this lets him off the hook. What he said was inappropriate, and anybody who is dumb enough to put stuff like this into an e-mail to a kid (or young adult, even) is not too swift, IMHO.

If the whole thing was a scam that was leaked or worse, then it suggests that there someone or something was using Foley to whack Hastert. GOT IT.
Kind of like Rocco beating up on Connie knowing that she would call Sonny. Sonny drives into the city and gets whacked at the toll booth.
Maybe I'm confused, it could have been e-mails, not IMs.
I like to think I can absorb a lot of information, but frankly I'm having a little problem keeping this one all sorted out. It does help that I have refused to read the actual IM messages.
I saw one IM last night on Fox where the page tells Foley he will see him in February, and I take that as the day he turns 18.
Interesting that you signed up as recently as July and keep misrepresenting posters on this thread. No one here as said one thing about keeping Foley etc. If they have please post their comments.
Personally, I like to burn my witches at the stake only after we've proven them to be real witches. The fakes just scream so pitifully, and get all smokey ~ it's disgusting.

Well, duh. If I knew, I wouldn't be missing it.
Very simple, I said that you can bet that Foley has more on the way (there is more than one page) (any number of studies show how many partners Gay people have on average and that it is far above that of normal people http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1039280/posts).
Foley started with emails to an underage Page, YES UNDERAGE, and started his subduction then, (a drink at my house, Page says he is underage). Foley is a sexual pervert and pedophile in my book because of this, and all the hopping around about the kid was 18 at a certain time does not neglect the points that Foley was plainly fishing for the kid no matter his age, the sooner the better as far as I can tell.)

Hah, His fruits have shown him to go into hiding, and blaming alcohol and being molested. Who is the kid here, people are saying this 17-18 y/o kid was mature, yet the congressman wasn't mature enough to get help from his alcoholism and molestation... Bull...
Half the people on FR are appalled, half are acting like Foley's personal lawyer to try and nudge him to just barely above the law. Some can't even bring themselves to call evil evil. Foley sure couldn't.
At 17 years of age, I surely know my judgement in some matters were subspect. Just because the law of the land says you are an adult at 18 doesn't mean squat in most cases in reality. Let some college kid get on FR and see how much respect is given due to his age. A congressman should know better, Foley did know better, but he didn't think much above his belt, sorta like an kid is known to do.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Foley probable has had underage porn on his computer also. Perhaps it now will never be found (whole lot of washing going on now IMHO), but any person worth his salt would assume it.
BTW... you can also bet you bottom dollar that Foley will be most non-helpful in providing internet evidence any time soon to clear his name of this underage suggestions.
Time will tell which seed will prove the truth. Asking an underaged Page over for a drink is already Fruit enough for me.
I thought the most recent shoe to drop is that the most lurid of the IM's is not even written by Foley. Some other page has come forward saying it was some kind of prank amongst the pages. That could explain why Edmund has hired a criminal attorney (and really, who but somebody who was incredibly desperate would hire Timothy McVeigh's former defense for such a high profile case and forever be touted as the man who hired the Oklahoma City bomber's lawyer?)

I'm hardly defending homosexuals, kid, and if you think that being an intern, in DC, is going to help your future "career", you have another think coming.
Sorry, the 18 year old was 18 years old the whole time. BTW, the whole thing could have been concocted much more recently you know, and he'd be 21.
