According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.
The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.
The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.
The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

I am a bit of a contrarian here thinking that age 16 these days is pretty old to be considered a child. At age 16, most boys and girls have learned to spot a perve and blow them off,,,,if they want to.
I don't care how old the pages were when the overtures started,,Foley was in a position of powwer and had no business hitting on pages of any age. He deserved to go and his resignation was proper.

He actually resigned when ABC brought the IMs to his attention. Also, Hastert tells us that the GOP leadership impressed upon him the need to resign after the IMs came out. The email was no big deal, just a little creepy that he wanted a photo. The email wasn't reason enough to resign; the IMs made his remaining in Congress impossible.

I'm listening to Shaun Hannity online and during the break between his show and Mark Levin's, they said three more (ex?) pages have stepped forward. One saying that Foley told him he could stay overnight at his place if the page would have sex with him. Now does that sound like a credible offer? I mean, wouldn't you offer something of more material substance, like money or an expensive gift of some kind in order to get a kid to have sex with you? An overnight stay? I hope they plan on giving these kids lie detector tests. It may be true, it may not be, but I think they all need to be tested.
Teenophile is fine. I would just rather reserve the word pedophile for those preying on prepubescent children, perhaps 14 and 15 year olds as well. Those should go up for 25 to life on the first offense, as with Jessica's Law.
Perps like Foley are within the boundaries of the law. Shunning is appropriate for him. If he did break the law then I think one to five on the first offense is about right. Say if he did what Deb Lafave did, only with a boy. There should be some jail, but it's not the same as raping a prepubescent child.
I would say that the homosexual nature of it should aggravate the crime and tack a few more years on it, but I don't suppose I'd get very far with that logic in this day and age.

He probably didn't know it was a prank since that fact just came to light but, in truth, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. He did write the replies and those are damning enough to cause his resignation. The good news is this has blown up in the Dem's face and the damage should be limited to Foley.
